Just got dotted by a Spriest that failed to fear me on my mount.
So, he tried to B line toward me, obviously I am not an idiot so I just ran around. Missed fear but still put 3 dots up. I rode away, put up a shield and it ate through the shield and 100% of my health to around 50 hp, so I had to hit a health pot and was still ticking so I just IB and continued on. So, if I were to have fought this Spriest there was literally NO chance of winning that fight against him while he also has heals, right?
What should I do when I get caught and have to fight? Mage v Spriest, what’s the strat there?

All part of the Rock Paper Scissors lite class balance situation for pvp. Shadow priests are beasts one on one.

So basically it’s as bad of a situation for me against a Spriest as it is for Warriors against me?

Shadow priests are tough as nails for us. Warlocks slightly less so without the heal utility, but no shame in sheeping and running, especially if they get the drop on you.
The only times I’ve had success is when I have cold snap up. IB the first wave of dots off then try to get a sheep in ASAP. When sheeped, get some distance. You essentially get one free cast off, plus the travel time it takes the projectile to land off your next cast. Pray these spells eat thru their shield, move in to hit with fireblast, cone. Keep an eye out for heal casts and CS them if they hands glow gold.
Then use the second IB to remove the final wave of dots so you don’t die after the fight is over.

If an experienced mage could say “try this” would be cool.
I rarely came up against anyone who I couldn’t beat on my warlock back in Vanilla, but would have to say a shadow priest is the class that could give me a very tough time if I came up against a good one.
Speaking as shadow priest, I haven’t had ONE person engage me fairly in PVP. They all wait until I’m in combat with a mob before they gank me. They know. They know I’d melt them if I wasn’t trying to juggle two targets. Most of them are rogues who cheapshot me while I’m in combat with a mob. Funny, if I’m not in combat, the horde tends to ignore me. I see you there, scared to fight me unless you’re basically guaranteed a win by waiting until I can’t fight back properly. I’ll still /wave at you though. But you know, and I know.

Ok yea, general consensus, stay far far away. Ok, that’s sucks lol.
Basically what you do vs a spriest as a mage is let him do his dps rotation try to keep max range sheep him and eat / drink up to full do it again he will be oom and it’s game over.

If you know what you’re doing as a hunter you can also destroy spriests and mages and everything else lol. Easiest class to play hardest to master lol
Shadow priests can’t use heal spells in shadow form if I recall correctly, and swapping in and out of shadow form costs a lot of mana.
That being said you can fight them, when you’re getting low sheep them, ice block and bandage or eat/drink. Try to think sustainability. Reset the fight if/when you can. SPriests are just about the best 1v1 class in classic. Very tough for anyone to defeat them in a clean fight.

You call out in /1 or /3 for help because spriests destroy everyone except SL warlocks 1v1.

Right they can not. But they can vamp embrace which can do a nice chuck of healing.
