Were dungeons like BRD considered too long?

I saw people struggling to find a tank for BRD, so I said I’ll either try to run them or tank. I essentially did very large pulls and they would AOE + heal me (without the trinket that heals you)…

I thought the dungeon was cool. And I had more enjoyment here (major waste of time for me, though no one wanted a libram that dropped that increases devo aura so I took that to add to collection)…

I think Gruuls Lair and Mag have poor designs compared to even just BRD.

So if the game had more BRD style 5 person dungeons I feel like that be funner but I’m assuming people complained about the length of these dungeons which is why you do not see anything like this in TBC.

I think it took us 2 hours with some of the appropriate level people getting cocky and dying when I would do these huge pulls.

So if you take a normal level range group, you’re looking at 3 hours for BRD, probably guessing~

Still, dungeons like this is more fun than 25 man raiding… and more fun than most of the dungeons in TBC.

I don’t fully remember BRD, I was surprised how much was in it.

Its cool, and fun to do once or twice, but the time investment is really high.

There needs to be built in skips and such, so people COULD do the whole thing, or not.

3 hours for a 5 man, just isnt it these days.

I would prefer that BRD have been divided into wings like Scarlet Monastery.
I have never in my entire WoW adventuring done a full BRD. Not even at Level 70 or 80.

Jail > Ring of Law > Darkvire
Angerforge > Arglemach
Grim Guzzler > Flamelash > The Seven
Emperor Runs

Something like that.

NO, I believe the dungeon was inspired by alot of old school dungeons from tabletop. You can go for a full quest clear, or you can skip right to emperor.
LVL 53: Area/prison+fire bosses
LVL 56: attunement+bar+non-emp quests
LVL 60: full clear to emp or hoj runs.
So it is really a matter of not one big dungeon but a stanard dungeon you might visit 3-4 times before it is just hoj runs. The size, scope, and the fact that at least 3 routes to take is without a doubt a mark of how great it is and there really should be another dungeon of scale and variant purpose.

The only one which comes close might be ulda as it has a pre-zone, and you can get the initial quests done and return later before the level squish.

BRD was a dungeon praised for how long it was, and hated for… how long it was.

I’ve heard passion from both sides, but that to me is why it’s so good.

Additionally, BRD is designed in such a way that you can cut to the parts you want, and mostly skip the parts you don’t want. That’s the genius of the dungeon design in my eyes. There are quite literally 4 or 5 different paths you can take through here to cherry pick the things your group needs. If your group needs the entire thing, it doesn’t take too terribly long IF your group isn’t made up of retards.

But considering the WoW community is full retard, that last part isn’t easy to achieve.

BRD was never intended to be an “in-and-out” experience. It spans like 15 levels and is huge. The overall design and intent are incredible. Unfortunately the inconvenience of needing a group to do much in there stymied it’s overall success.

dungeons with multiple wings (brd, strath) were never intended to be cleared in one run

Only on one occasion did we actually kill Baelgar as part of the whole run.

People either did Emperor Runs (SF Key, past the General, then the bar, and down the back), Windsor runs (Clear the detention block, then walk with the Marshall), Dormitory/Finneous Runs (clearing for the Vault etc) or Core Attunements and Incendius for MC bracers.

It was never meant to be one instance run. It’s basically an instanced zone with multiple goals.

I never thought BRD was “Too Big” it literally had paths for all 15 levels to go through 45-53 Lower (Inquisitor/Jailbreak attune) part.
then the Upper portion for 53-60 like there is so many paths to take to skip some bosses too if they were deemed to hard.
It’s like saying Blackrock Spire is too big for a Dungeon Raid. (Maybe or Not)

It’s long if you do all of it which no one ever does.
I’m glad we got shorted dungeons with the release of TBC.

BRD is my favorite instance. I ran it all the time to get ppl their HoJ or their sgc. I was mad I couldn’t hold guild events in it and take 40 ppl in.

You could do so much with that instance. It was so imersive.

BRD is one of the best instances ever.

Blackrock Depths was a terrible failed experiment for dungeon design. It was far too big for its own good. I hated trying to get groups to go there to do quests or get its exclusive crap. Remember trying to farm the vault for BOP enchanting materials? Or having to use the bar for a reputation vendor? Or the forge at the back just to smelt dark iron? Ugh. Good riddance BRD. I’d rather do any other classic dungeon than see the inside of that dumpster fire again.

BRD has a really boring setting, but I think sunken temple was about the right length and exploration feeling for a dungeon.

BRD was the dungeon that I was most excited to see again.

It’s long, and it requires a group/clearing each time one needs to go in to do anything. Smelting dark iron and using the forge is annoying… As is getting to the Grim Guzzler. Despite the inconvenience, I feel the design is outstanding.

BRD was just too big. It would have worked better as a zone itself with just the part leading to emperor as an instance. A lot of things would have worked better in that case.

Or, an unlockable teleport feature… Getting to the GG or the forge shouldn’t always require a party.

Yeah blizzard seemed to realize that problem pretty early one when they added a teleport to MC from outside BRD.

BRD isn’t too large, but it is too large to do everything in one run.
The other issue is that BRD is no longer end game content, you could find leveling groups or emp runs before tbc, now the only reason people go there is for attunments (in which case you are just running to the fragment) or people are leveling and need a full quest run like gnomer. Retail LFDs solution of splitting into upper and lower worked well imo (as far as making the run a decent length for a fun leveling run)
TL;DR BRD isn’t too long, its too long to run w/ no reward so if you want a carry be specific in your asking, as I imagine people would be more willing to step in for a boos or two, then you hit em with the ol’ “well this boss is so close surely it won’t be a problem” before you know it you’ve cleared guzzler and at that point you are as close to the end as the beginning >;)

They were only considered long by crybabies. BRD is personally my favorite dungeon the game has ever had. Tons of content, rich lore, no crappy on-rails hallway design, lots of quests, and because of the starter enemies being ~48, you had a dungeon you could experience a while before you hit max level and keep returning and doing better.

Whiners who threw a fit because they didn’t get a quick, easy McDungeon to clear in 15 minutes were the problem.
