Went Questing Through Vashjir Again. Now I Know Why It Was Terrible

Since I’ve turned into a quest completionist junkie (thanks Warband completion)…

The zone itself is fine. It’s beautiful. Movement is fine on an aquatic mount. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the zone’s design itself.

But oh. My god. Are the quests terrible. Bugs galore. Bad quest design all around.

Did you not walk to a very specific spot between two lights? No quest NPC spawns for you. Run out and do it again.

Were you on the submarine rather than inside it? No quest completion for you. Go back to start and get inside.

Accept a quest and see 0 mobs or NPCs? Relog or run away and back until the quest phases correctly.

Do you like parent quests that require the completion of 5 boring child-quests? No? Neither do I.

How about map markers that are nowhere near the quest? You like those too?

Do you enjoy having to go to Wowhead every other quest to see how to progress, and stare in awe at the bombardment of comments saying how bad that particular quest and Vashjir quests are in particular? Do you enjoy bugs and just terrible quest design in general with bad map markers?

Then Vashjir is for you.

Retail has improved hugggeeely since then, despite all the current bugs.

Are you in combat in Vashjir?

Must be facing target. Must be facing target. Must be facing target. Haha it’s right above you! Must be facing target.

I have to disagree. Underwater combat has always been terrible in WoW (especially for melee). Plus, just being there too long gives me a headache.

Yeah, cata zones really had a lot of bugs. I remember having that same issue with quests not appearing in the right places in Uldum as well. Gilneas released that expansion… we know how bad that was. As far as having to look up how to do every quest, I never relied on outside resources more than I did for shadowlands!

I turn on donkey kong aquatic theme every time i go to that zone. Really helps set the mood.

Vashjir is not for everyone. But I really like underwater areas. Some love it and some despise. Like pineapple pizza.

Still waiting on Blizzard to give us a Mine Cart Carnage minigame, Darkflame Cleft is not it. :triumph:

Oh man I read this and I HEARD the little song that plays when you reach the end of a level in Donkey Kong Country 2. lol

This is really the problem with Vash’jir in a nutshell.

I never had any problem with this zone and frankly its progression to the depths is actually pretty good but story falls off a cliff with cut content

It’s been probably two years since I leveled through that zone so maybe somehow it’s messed up now, but I had zero issues and I completed all quests to get the achievement ding.

I lvled my rogue in cata classic in there, wasent so bad … actually did all the quests there for gold

I completed the zone long ago, and my major problem with it was the lack of visual cues to aid in depth perception when you’re out in the water.

When you’re out in the normal world in the game, you can gauge how close or far something is to you despite the 2D screen based on the solid ground distance between you and it. There is no reliable way to gauge that sort of thing in an underwater zone. Needless to say, it makes combat a pain. I don’t know how to remedy that problem without some kind of binocular VR headset, but I wouldn’t want to play WoW like that.

Color coded (shaded) mobs based on their location to your toon would help…ya know without trying to alienate folks by strapping on a headset. :slightly_smiling_face:
