Welp. I unsubbed

I know no one wants to see other one of these. But I feel I need to just say some words to get it out.

I first started playing this game in wotlk. And man was it a magical experience. I started off as a night elf warrior and the starting zone was breathtaking back then. After getting to about level 14 switched to a blood elf warlock and never looked back at the alliance. To me horde just always feels like home. Whenever I play an alliance toon I always feel like something is missing. Switch back to my horde toons and I’m like oh yeah I just love horde.

It wasn’t until wod I reached max level. Got to about 64 in wrath and stopped playing until wod cause a friend got me back into it. Wasn’t until legion I truly got to experience end game content.

Mythic plus was amazing in legion! And the nighthold raid was fantastic. Did +15 keys and even killed the first 3 bosses in nighthold on mythic. Kept going strong to finish out legion. Always made sure to get aotc right away.

But then bfa happened…

I still liked bfa, but something felt different. For some odd reason blizz decided to put tyrannical and fortified on keys at a +2. Legion didn’t start until +10. To me that made the dungeons feel super slow. And now I didn’t care to push keys anymore, and I didn’t care to raid anymore. I did start doing some rated pvp though. And man I was mad that I didn’t do rated pvp in legion. I missed out on the rated pvp sets for the dk.

Took a few breaks for a month or so in bfa.

And now shadowlands came out. And almost right away something felt good about this expansion. And I think most of us thought the same.

But man were we wrong lol

Probably within the first few weeks this expansion really started to show its ugly head. Covenants felt awful because we were forced into one we didn’t like because of a certain ability. Torghast became choreghast. And even today it’s still a chore. The jailers gauntlet is fun, but oh look I can only get the soul ash and cinders one time. Really?

Classes just feel awful now compared to legion. At least with legions powered borrow you eventually unlocked it all and could use every trait at once. Unlock now here is your conduits, but you can only use 3 of them, but your class would play better with all of them.

To me that’s really why I’m just bored of wow. Classes just feel awful to play.
There is nothing exciting about there rotations anymore.
The outside world is so boring.
Korthia and zereth mortis are the same thing. Just farm rares all day and wait days for your cypher research timers.
There is literally nothing else to if you aren’t doing raids, dungeons, or pvp.
Pvp is awful this expansion if you aren’t fully geared with pvp gear.
Here play a ton of bgs to get enough honor to get gear, but oh yeah your team is going to get rolled until you get that gear because the other team has max pvp gear.
I personally want stat templates back.

But yeah.
This game just sucks the life out of me to play. The new patch is out and I am instantly bored the moment I log in and do a daily or two in ZM.

After the mage tower came back and went away I took a break until 9.2 would come out. I was playing other games and I generally felt pretty good. But then I came back for 9.2 and I just feel like the life is sucked out of me when I play it.

So yeah I think I’m going to quit wow and maybe come back if 10.0 is good.

I’m done in April. Since we have over a year wait until the next expansion may as well play other games.

I agree with everything you said except for stat templates in pvp.
That takes away all the dedication pvpers have out in to get there gear good.
A much more simple and easier fix would be to give us the gearing system that has pretty much always been in place, and pretty much every pvper wants.
1 honor set.
1 conquest set.
No stupid upgrades.
Nice.
Simple.
Easy

Sounds like you were too focused on min maxing in Sl. Seems like alot of people did things in SL they didn’t want too do for some reason.

People need to learn to just not doo the content you don’t feel like doing in wow. Soo many posts act as if things like dailys or spamming torghast all the time were necessary for the basic lvl gameplay.

Everyone acts like its a fact that if your conduits weren’t ilvl 252 in 9.1 upon entering a +2 your character would combust when stuff like conduits beyond ilvl 200 or so were meant to just be a side project to work on from the very beginning of sl. Same with covs / soulbinds, everyone acted like say playing theotar when nadjia was “better” was an automatic loss no matter the thing you were doing. I’ve never seen a playerbase so absolutely fixated on being “min maxed” that they can’t do anything without making the best possible decision, no matter how actually bad it ends up being.

Ya it is soo weird. People are making themselves hate the games grind by only doing 1 thing for hours on end. Either that or over obsessing on what spec and setup People are doing in 27s or in early season mythic raiding.

Because competitiveness drives many people in games. Nothing is wrong with that. I play to do my best too. If that means I have to do something I dislike because it ends up improving my performance then I’ll probably do it so I enjoy other content more. Doing my best or pushing myself to do better is very rewarding. I’m not even good lol but it’s my best.

There is simply too many systems now imo. Better when I could pick a class and focus on playing it and not think about the extra stuff. Just like your saying people should do. It is better that way. Stronger gear makes me stronger and that is enuff for me!

But the devs are obsessed with splitting our classes and specs into a billion pieces for some reason. If people are better off ignoring the systems that are driving our gameplay then there is something wrong with the systems.

I can understand being competitive to a degree, but if you are playing 1 part of a game so much that it is making you hate it then there is a problem. Far to many people do this for some reason. Conduits give you basically a few percent more dmg overall when going from 225 to at the time in korthia 252. That much power gain is not worth forcing yourself to grind through if you either don’t do content that requires it or if you hate the gameplay.

I don’t blame you. Hopefully the break will be good for you, lot of fun games to be tried out there!

I just liked it more with less loose ends to tie on my character at max level. It’s like a feeling that hangs over me in the last couple of expansion when I step foot into something that should feel more like an adventure than a burden. The systems are too heavy, they weigh down the whole experience. If you don’t focus on doing it then that’s fine and probably do fine enough performance but it still feels the same for some reason. It’s there and it’s silly.

BFA is fun as heck running through it now. I detested that expansion while current. Just taking all the extra crap away makes it feel like a fun time. I wish they would do less systems and open up achievements like pathfinder quicker.

I agree with you and with OPs reasons for taking a break. You don’t have to do it but it’s there… ya know? We play what they give us but it’s not the best way to play because it’s not the most fun. Seems like a poor design.

The key to this game is to stop caring

I focus more on what I myself am able to achieve then focusing on gear in particular. I myself know that an extra 3% dmg realistically isn’t going to matter, especially compared to advancing my own skill at the game.

We both just seem to view the game differently.

OP, I hear you and I’m on my way out too. I’m going to check out the raid to see if it will be fun and if it is, I’ll raid. If not, I’ll let my sub expire and move on. There isn’t anything in this patch that has been fun.

Tbh, I didn’t read what you wrote but I don’t blame you. Take it ez.

Not really, you see the flaws with wasting your time on the systems too but you ignore it better than others like me.

Yeah I wasn’t truly planning on unsubbing. Was more just thinking about quitting for awhile since I have the 6-month. But I went on my account today and saw my renewal is March 10th. So I was like welp either I unsub or get billed for the next 6 months and probably still quit.

Indeed. Blizzard has completely abandoned class design. It’s also why I stopped playing. Every class feels so dull
