Well, I guess Blizzard simply doesn't want us to choose the covenant we like

Even after all the feedback, Blizzard still clings to the fact that abilities that affect your character’s power should absolutely be locked behind different aesthetic, armor, zone and lore choices.

Quite a shame if you ask me, I would’ve liked to choose covenants that I like and that suit my characters, but unfortunately I’ll have to choose whatever is going to be best for my class/spec because otherwise I’m going to have a huge disadvantage.
Would’ve loved to choose Maldraxxus on my DK and Ardenweald on my druid, but guess blizz will decide what’s best for me. Shame.

Just give every covenant access to every ability and/or soulbind. It will be much more fun for everyone since players can choose what they like and blizz has to spend less time balancing the covenants around each others.

We’ve been warning you ever since the system was announced and we’re warning you now. Please listen to our feedback.

You know you’ll be able to travel to other zones right? And you can craft gear or get loot from dungeons that match the aesthetics of the other zones?

I’m just picking the covenant that I want to pick. If that makes me miss out on some raid groups or Mythic+ then so be it. But I’m not going to have some elitist losers who never leave their house dictate to me what covenant I should pick.

Especially when the covenant is the defining aspect of the entire expansion.

Similar aesthetic? Yes. But the main sets of armor are exclusive to that covenant. The only way to get the main advertised sets that everyone is fawning over is to pick the corresponding covenant.

I think I will go along for the ride. Sometimes I forget that the devs are in some regards artists in their own right with a vision of what they would like the game to be.

For better or for worse I think I will give it a go.

I have always pretty much ignored the meta anyways and just done what I found enjoyable and if none were found just sat out.

I’ll pick what jives with me. I think it is just what it is going to be.

“You have two choices. You can have a cake. Or we can snap your leg in a bear trap. It’s totally your choice though so don’t blame us if you choose the bear trap and it breaks your leg!”

So if I want my character to do more damage (which is perfectly reasonable in an mmo imo) I have to choose a covenant that I don’t like for the entire expansion and it’s not blizz’s fault?

Blizz couldn’t just give us talent rows or something?

You should just pick what you want. I promise you, no one anywhere cares about your DPS ranking and people who do care about things like that aren’t really worth your time.

shrug I’m gonna go with whichever faction tickles my fancy. It’s not like any of the powers are bad and I can easily see how any of them could give unorthodox powers to players (IE bubbles for DPS or teleports for tanks).

As to aesthetics: no one is ever going to completely agree about what is or is not a good look.

I’ll bet you $100 that if Blizz sees people settling on specific covenants for each activity, they’ll start shuffling covenant abilities/perks around regularly so doing that becomes impractical. The way I’m reading it, they’re deliberately trying to break the behavior of “optimize for sheer performance at all costs”.

Would’ve loved to choose Druid during raid and Warrior During m+, but guess blizz will decide what’s best for me. Shame.

They do this almost every expansion. Blizzard has always asked us to do it their way in the first patch of the expansion, and then if it flops they’ll fix it.

Kind of ties into the whole vision thing you talked about.

Or if you are a rogue it is Blizz’s fault. We have 2 meh options, 1 pain in the butt option and 1 that literally does nothing but replace our poison with one that does the exact same thing as deadly poison. So yeah. From a rogue perspective it is Blizz’s fault.

I would love to play a necrolord palladin next expansion, but I plan to do arena and getting a redundant defensive over a teleport is a severe handicap.

Oh stop it with this nonsense. It’s a non-choice for anyone that participates in even semi-challenging content. It’d be nice to have the option NOT to gimp your character while still going with the aesthetic and lore that you like would be nice.

The overwhelming majority will pick whatever Icy veins tells them to. People will continue to complain that it’s a bad system (because it is) and Blizzard will change it in 9.1 or 9.2 after half the playerbase has dipped in frustration.

Same ol’ same ol’. We know how it works.

These are NOT classes. Two abilities and some passives do not make them classes. Quit acting like they do.

What they do do, however, is create a balancing mess that Blizzard will be encapable of solving–because it’s Blizzard and they have the balancing skills of a boulder on a seasaw with a potato–and they create unnecessary frustration where there should be none.

Like I’ve said before… If they were all within 1-2% of one another, it’s be fine. Some are in the area of 15%-20% better though and that is simply unacceptable.

Sometimes you gotta throw stuff at the wall and see if it sticks.

I think iteration and experiment is essential to the life of the game even if the direction they go in doesn’t do anything for me.

I guess at this point right now I have plenty in life to be concerned about. I’m not going to worry about covenants. If it flops I have been meaning to finally try out FFXIV and it would present a perfect opportunity for me to dip my feet in unfamiliar waters.

I ended up deleting my post as I had some angry person replying to me that had nothing to do with the intention to my post. As for this, outside mythic raiding if you know your spec you don’t need some cookie cutter build to over come the content. Get a good guild of people you trust and beat it instead of relying on pugs.

This is the comment i am referring to as to why i deleted my post. I was replying to one person, not getting pulled into some angry person’s issues as to why rouges don’t function.

They are meant to be subclasses. Those are Ion‘s own words. I imagine they’ll be about as balanced as classes are today. They already have plans for new soul binds and new abilities in 9.1+, so I wouldn’t bet the farm on them scrapping subclasses as a concept.

At this point, they just need to add the same power to all character with different aesthetics and spell effects.

Fixed that for you!
