I miss power-leveling. You know, giving lower level alts better weapons and / or buffs that make them incredibly strong. Or where you group with a higher level character and the higher level character drags the lower level though a dungeon in the same group.
I spent a LOT of time in UBRS dragging my kids toons there to grind to max level. Clear till boss, have the kids park their toons in that area and I go clear the rest of the dungeon.
I miss that. It was more fun than just LFD and grinding dungeonsâŚ
I kind of miss things being unknown. When the world felt big and amazing and dangerous. And now we know every aspect of everything months before itâs even available. I miss doing a fight and trying to figure out how things worked.
Now itâs âgo watch the videoâ. And thereâs some nice production value high def video from multiple views describing everything.
I mean you could still go find info before, but I miss feeling like it wasnât expected to know stuff before you ever saw it.
I miss the Shimmering Flats, a big lake with a speed barge in the middle is not the same as a desert salt flat with a race track in the middle. I just always liked the zone and when they flooded it in cata it was so strange. The new version is not bad it is just not the same.
I really disliked the zone, and found it to be boring and drab over-all. But I liked the race track and elevator. The quests were utterly horrendous though.
I prefer playing pirate by far, and yet I wish theyâd found a way to keep the track for flavor really.
I (somewhat) miss the sense of âwonderâ the world had, like wondering whatâs behind the Greymane Wall or whatâs at the top of Mt Hyjal. Now with flying and all that nearly every spot in the game is accessible, making it feel less âunknown and unexploredâ.
We will never get that back unless they gut flying completely and/or really mix it up environment wise, but itâs nice to think about.
As pretty the game gets and more flashy it gets, all of that gets pretty distracting some times and sometimes it gets hard to tell which spell on the ground is yours and which is the enemies. Not to mention the games love to make a good chunk of the spells blinding, mainly the holy spells. Deliberate or Not, i like an option to turn all the flashy stuff off without decreasing my particle count. Basically the new spell effects but with less flash option. Also an option to disable the âfog effectâ and other âaura effectâ that BFA introduced. Much rather have them off tbh.
(i donât mean the spell alerts, i mean the stuff they put on your screen when you step over fire, kinda like in BFA where if you step over fire, your screen is on fire a little. Unless Spell Alerts are tied to that.)
Gaming culture in general has this problem. In the past you would pretty much need to find out things yourself or ask around. Now we have guides for everything before itâs released and are expected to read them before we even step foot inside the raid or dungeon.
I miss the Dragon aspects. I loved visiting them and just kind of chilling watching them and I was always in awe of them. I loved visiting Azuregos in old Azshara. Fun times.
Thousand Needles / Shimmering Flats is the area of the game that made the biggest impression on me back in Classic (when I ran my under level shaman to Gadgaetzan to use the neutral auction house). To this day Iâm still bummed itâs flooded.
Honestly, I miss a lot of the Classic zones and quests.
I really, really detest hearing âgo watch the videoâ, but thatâs the age we live in now: information is so easy to gather ⌠I really canât blame people for getting frustrated at people who havenât âwatched the videoâ.
Itâs a shame though, I loved, hell, lived for that experience of going into a place for the first time, figuring things out and seeing what on earth might be ahead. Now you can only really get that from singleplayer games, 'cause in an MMO, there will always be someone who expects you to have seen the content and mastered it before you even go in.
It doesnât bother me when it comes to group content in an MMO, since itâs not just your own time on the line, but I understand the sentiment.
We had a guy in our 2nd group back during SoO in MoP who wouldnât read or watch any guides because he wanted to see it normally on his own first. So we were clearing (todayâs) Mythic bosses with him anyway. I mean, itâs not as if I didnât still explain fights before the pull, but just kind of an interesting experience.
Bringing mats to cook meat found in the instance to give to mana users.
Finding chests, passing out potions and scrolls as needed.
Bringing extra mats because I knew people would forget their material components.
Having hunters mark targets and pulling. Having a dps being the target assist. Just because I was the tank, it wasnât always the most sensible for me to lead, I was usually busy sundering.
