Weird observation on ele sham

so last night i did a 10 on my ele sham and just before we ran it, I replaced a crit high low vers neck (665) with a 675 crafted haste mastery neck (haste mastery are my listed and simd best stats). I duplicated the gems in it and equipped. ilvl went up by 1 overall and i did the 10. I simd the crafted upgrades vs what i was wearing bc i got a new spark and it told me the crafted haste mastery neck was a 1.2% upgrade.

My damage fell off a cliff, not only noticeably, but down right obvious. I was like wth happened…

so i simd myself again now wearing it and i simd at 3.3m dps overall. When I put the 665 crit/vers neck back on I sim at 3.97m overall.

so i put the 665 neck on and went into one this morning and did 4.3m overall vs the 2.5 i did last night.

Well What A Strange Trip this has been lmfaoooooooo. sometimes i dont even know what the hell is going on :joy: how the heck can 1 neck do that to a spec

You went past a soft cap that you hadn’t gone over before and so this happened. Revert and take up your old rotation then you will be fine.

ok i had no idea there was one and was curious. ok that makes sense though. appreciate it

Well I know there is hard and soft caps in multiple other versions of the game. I went past one on my warrior and did terrible as compared to before. And look at what your %s say as you are putting the gems and enchants in.

And you can also get a bunch of gems and enchants ready on your toon, copy that toon to PTR and try them all out in different setups.

ok good idea about the ptr. never thought of it.

it even felt wonky to play lol. i never had that happen before. was shocking. thx for the feedback

aside from anything else, it’s important to remember that actual performance can vary due to a large number of factors that don’t exist in sims.

You’re doing something wrong in the sim if a neck piece is swinging it 600k.

Going from my worst stats to best stats with the same ilvl is like a 50k DPS change.

True, need to try against a dummy for a baseline, but even there procs can make or brake rotations and they are RNG based. Get unlucky and its a bad time.
Then add the mobs RNG for their moves which force you to change what youre doing, and what the other players/classes in your run is doing and you can start to see that Sim damage is a theoretical in a vaccum number that will have a massive variance.

Elemental is also a wild RNG spec with DRE.

This. Go hit a training dummy if you want a better idea of how the changes affect your dps.

Which dungeon, affixes, how the tank pulls, how good the other dps are, are just a few factors that would affect your numbers.

Elemental Far Seer is bugged against target dummies :frowning:

Btw you should sim crafts before sending them rather than going off stat weights…

Usually thats the case for me when I look at the values for any gear but in this instance I used the find upgrades and the crafted section more specifically. This is why I made the neck in the first place. It simd at a 1.2% upgrade but when I did the sim again actually wearing it my dps literally went from 3.97 to 3.3m. That’s why i thought it was weird. I wasn’t doing anything wrong in my eyes. Maybe the find upgrades is off a little idk. Was just curious as to why that would happen. I can equip and post the sim results later when I get home if you’re even interested lol

Yeah usually I notice with a good tank that pulls heavy my dps goes up but this guy was actually doing a good job at the time that’s why i was trippin

Use the best gear option to actually sim each piece. There is no way shuffling some secondary stats are going to change your sim’d results by more than 100k.

As other have said, always sim each piece. Guides that tell you best stats are generalities and don’t necessarily apply to you and the gear you have on.

Sim on Patchwork or Dungeon slice. The dummy sims don’t work well.

Your DPS will vary a lot based on encounters. Your ToP overall DPS will be very different from your DFC overall dps.

I think you definitely messed something up. I did the same experiment and it’s a 100k difference in AOE. 20k in st.

Ele also has crazy swings. I play Ele on m stix and if I get food dre procs it can be like 2m dps swing

Ok I’ll post it later but i hear ya. Thanks
