Weird High Auctions

Recently I’ve seen someone posting three food auctions. What’s weird about these is that they sell one item for 112g 24s, two items for 152g 35s, and five items for 131g 23s. Not only that, I see them doing the same thing for several items including spices you’d buy from the vendor.

I tried looking online for some answers but came up with none. I am new to the auction flipping scene so is there something going on that I am unaware of?

  1. Probably people trying to catch careless whales.
  2. Or Illicit GDKP workaround for getting things in game after discussing price on Discord.

I think it’s because on the default AH it can put those near the top and people who aren’t paying attention can sometimes buy them since they’re right above the cheapest ones.

99% rmt - everyone on a while you see people trying to catch noobs but 99% of the time rmt

90% of it , take the spices for example, a new player that has no idea where to get them and finds then in the ah so they buy them , unaware the vendor sells them for far less, you see this all the time

whale trap. trying to snag inattentive people wiht a lot of gold spam buying.

Ah alright. I guess with the buffed gold in Season it would make sense. Thank you all for explaining.

Or they bought gold.

Which makes the most sense since this is Season of Swiping.

true. i have a guilde who’s 67 years old and he spend most of the evening gaming sod. Sometimes he will come up to guildies and ask if anyone have some “x” reagent for his crafting needs (mostly vendor reagents) because AH prices are overpriced.

a lot of these are annoying AH scams, they set the bid to the next to lowest bid. Default AH only lets you sort by bid values. Someone in my guild uses default AH (literally dont know why when auctionator and chain buy is goated) and got scammed buying random consumes for raid .

There are a handful of players on my server that list pretty much 1 of every resource/consumable in the game for like 1 silver starting bid and 120g buyout in hopes that people accidentally buy it.

I message one of them and apparently they make a boat load of gold this way lol

People have always done this, it’s a low-effort way at a small chance to get a nice sum off people not paying attention.

The other option is people are using it for real money trading or something similar.

This has been done on severs for over a decade.

They’re listed in different stack quantities to hopefully rip off someone buying stacks of 2, for example. Once they buy all the reasonably priced stacks of 2, the seller is hoping they buy their absurdly priced one and it does work from time to time. When it does work, it’s a big payoff

It’s very easy once you have set up listing prices and groups for each item. Just end up clicking a few buttons and all your items are listed in different stack groups and the pre determined price

It’s sometimes to reset and mess with the values of auction addons that tell you the average price by percentage for an item. By posting increased values they can skew the numbers and ppl may not know that 5g per stack of a certain potion isn’t actually 82% of it’s normal value.
