Weightlifting Thread

Server members, I am an avid gym goer. I love to lift to the point where I end up hurting myself (and don’t let myself heal all the way; not a good example to follow)

So I want to hear some opinions on the other RPing lifters!

What’s your current split? Your favorite exercise? Do you take preworkout? Heavy lifts only or maximum pump on lighter weight?

Personally I’ve been on a push/pull/leg split since June, which guarantees me to hit my muscle groups at least twice a week instead of maybe twice (but more often just once).

I have to say my favorite exercise is split between the bench (which I must take a month off due to a hurt shoulder) and weighted pull ups. That pump is ridiculous! Can’t do heavy of much right now because I also hurt my back a couple months ago and have kept off all deadlifting and squatting. :sob:

Let’s hear it from you guys!

I’m not as in shape as I used to be, but you should’ve seen me in my prime.

I could life eight large pieces of mogu statues at the same time, while swimming in a lake in full plate armor.

I practice aikido but I’ve never been to a gym. Not to work out anyway. Don’t care for them. I just work out in the MA center or at home. And definitely do not lift lol

Dude you’re such a brul

Also I encourage people to ask questions about weightlifting so that us fellow bruls can help you on your fitness journey!

For example: If you are just beginning, and you want to lift weights. I suggest bringing a friend to help you learn proper technique. Learning how to do the big compound movements (Benchpress, Squat, Deadlife, Military Press, Pull Ups) correctly will ensure you start seeing your gains quickly without harming yourself!

Finally, a thread I can play with!

Over the holidays when I’m surrounded by constant work parties, I switch over to 5/3/1 with 2-3 accessory lifts so I can actually put the calories to good use.

I really like doing just about any of the Buff Dudes (lifting YouTubers) 12 week programs.

Yes to preworkout. It’s the closest I’ll get to a strength potion.

I’m a good for nothing lazy person but I don’t own a car and live in the city so I walk on average 5 miles a day. If I do anything after work or whatever I can easily clock in 10 miles from just walking. Otherwise I just stretch in the morning :skull:

Anyway, my brother lifts and has a work out space at home. My niece who is about 3 now has started copying him so he got her things like a broom handle and other small things for her to practice with :muscle::heart:

Buff dudes cut program is the bomb. Love those guys.

Ok what’s the worst name for a preworkout you’ve ever seen?

For me I took one called “Lit”

However it WAS good pre-workout much to my chagrin.

I usually avoid the ones that try to imply I’ll have an EXXXTREME BOUT of RAW ANGER if I drink it for MAXIMUM LIFTGGRESSION.

My favorite is Pre-Jym because it hits all the right CNS bells for me but damn if it isn’t expensive. I just bought a tub of the Amazon brand stuff which is v tasty, Dominus, Fruit Punch.

If you’re serious and not humble bragging, I recommend this channel. It is an excellent resource.

I stopped going to the gym about three years ago. Had been going an hour to an hour and a half five nights a week for about a year, was at the point where I was looking and feeling really good. Then on a night when I felt like I’d really hit my stride and was killing it, I coughed on the first rep of leg presses and my bottom rib popped. Finished my entire workout for the night, but I was out for a couple months letting it heal. Never went back after that, was busy with moving and a new job and buying a house, etc. Will hopefully get back in there before long.

I’ve been lifting for about 5 years now. Got pretty cut at one stage (sub 10%) then took time off as I was getting in a relationship (you know how it be) now I’ve been back for the past 7-8months and I don’t think I’m as big as I was however I’ve been really hitting my previous weak spots and I’m coming up looking better then before.

I’ve always done a typical bro split, never followed any specific programs, personally.
I’ve learned a lot, don’t necessarily put it all to good use though. So if anyone has any questions I’d be happy to help as well.

Hey, I never knew that! I’ve been wanting to get into aikido for a while, just for the health benefits of martial arts, and that seems like basically the least aggressive one. I have no interest in kicking anybody’s butt, just cultivating some strength and balance.

I also don’t lift. I do bodyweight exercises in my living room, and I should probably do more. The antibiotics I’m on right now have me feeling pretty drained all the time.

It is! It’s basically a martial art dedicated to defending yourself while doing the least amount of physical harm possible to people attacking you. Stopping them, not injuring them. What’s not super fun is practicing. Because you need to be very good to not inflict a lot of pain. So when you’re working with other students, that part tends not to happen. Lots of throwing, and being thrown, onto floors and into walls. No punching or kicking at least though.

I’m not much of a lifter. I’m more of a cardio-addict. Running is like a drug to me!

Right now old people are my weights, rolling them around when they’re half asleep is a good workout.

Really though, I’ve been looking into gyms but worry about overworking my flabby body to commit to a membership.

The human body can handle a lot!

Only the most serious bros can handle that level of muscle science

I lift pretty regularly as I try to stave off father time a little bit longer (I’ll turn 48 in January).

I usually do a 4 day split. Heavy weights, low reps. Cardio on my non-lifting days. In January I’ll be starting my 2 times a year dip into German Volume Training.

I’m a big fan of T-Nation’s website. Tons of good info there.

As for suppliments, I use whey protein, cassein protein, a pre workout (the aforementioned Lit…trying bubble gum flavor tomorrow), Glutamine and Creatine. After working out I give myself a treat of Gummi Bears (will give you a lot of the same benefits as post workout suppliments at a much lower cost point…plusits a nice post workout treat).

God, “Post Workout.” That came out of nowhere and struck me as the dumbest thing ever.

It’s basically flavored sugar and a bite of protein depending on what you get and maybe some creatine if they sold you on “You need creatine before AND after, brah!”. The appearance, and continued proliferation, of it is what kind of finally made me realize the majority of the fitness industry is not your friend.

Let’s hear some PRs!! I’m 160lbs currently, trying to get my six pack (for once) before my wedding so I’m not doing heavy lifts currently to get a bit faster tempo in my sessions (also because duh back injury and shoulder injury)

Last time I lifted heavy for 1 rep maxes: 315 deadlift, 235 bench, 275 squat, 145 standing overhead/military press.

22 pull ups consecutive pull ups now!
