Weekly Chests giving key shards instead of keys?

Is this just for this week, or is this permanent moving forward? Chests appear to give 50 key shards, so we’d get two coffer keys a week instead of four.

Ive been trying to look for news about it. None of my caches gave a key, only 50 key shards. If thats the case I’ll prolly not play my alts much anymore. Maybe just do the 2 regular delves for the weekly cache since i wont be able to get extra gear from running bountifuls. I really hope its only for this week.

I’ve seen nothing about it. May be worth putting in a bug report just in case. I really wish Blizzard would communicate these things upfront if they’re intentional…

I guess the loot treadmill was too fast…

Figured it out. The epic cache’s give a full key. The blue caches give 50 shards each. Still totals 4 keys per week, but requires a bit more work.

Huh. Just opened the Awakened Mechanical Cache (purple) and it only gave 50 shards.

You used to be able to do the Spreading the Light and Awakening the Machine for two keys, now you just get 50 shards for one event. So everything is twice as long now? I guess you gotta cheese the content as long as possible.

I’m hoping it’s blizzard not wanting us to stockpile keys week 1 and will ideally return the usual acquisition methods next week.

apparently only pinnacle caches give keys now and the vet gear

and the 3 WQ box

I did get a key from that chest. Along with a vet belt, thanks blizzard. I assume this might make the worldsoul appealing next week.

So from what I can tell, at least this week, you can get 1 full coffer key from the Pinnacle Cache (archive quest), and 1 full key from the 3 WQ quest in Ka’resh (only in Ka’resh!). All the older caches (such as Theater Troupe/Azj Kahet/Hallowfall/Awakening the Machine) now seem to award 50 coffer shards each. The 4 per week limit is separate for caches that award full keys and shards, so you will get 200 shards (enough for 2 keys) from the first 4 older caches.
So it does add up to a total of 4 keys this week, but unfortunately we have to work extra to get them. Hopefully this is temporary, or at least we get more opportunities to obtain caches that grant full keys from next week.

So now we get content we’ve done for the past two seasons padded out to make it last longer as well?

Like WTF Blizzard?

So if you ran out first thing and did the Light cache and Troupe, getting 2 adventurer pieces you can’t get any Veteran gear this week?

The chests from old content, which isn’t scaled, are less valuable now (no veteran gear and 50 shards instead of keys). Annoying, but it’s hard to say that e.g. Awakening the Machine is worth veteran gear when you can one-shot most of the mobs.

agreed, but you gotta admit, the keys are for content that was scaled up, the delves. So the characters that need a leg up on playtime, alts, had their progress slowed down. Its safe to say a portion of the populace may reduce their alt playtime which hurts blizzards metrics. Its one thing to encourage mains or secondaries to run current content, its another for blizzard to ask the same for the armies of alts that most players have at this point. But maybe thats their goal. One question is that how many people would quit if maintaining their alt army is cumbersome. I wager not a lot but having an army of alts, one per class, keeps the game fresh for a lot of people.

i might have missed it, i got the vet gears even after doing the theatre and light. Of course my luck gave me 2 of the exact same item…

Yes, the content that they’re for scaled up. But the content that they’re from didn’t, so now each old world event is worth less than one full bountiful delve. Because delves are worth more.

But it doesn’t. The main metric they track is whether people are paying and logging in every month, not whether they grind out all the content for hours on their army of alts.

i mean, part of me thinks we should be happy old content gives relevant rewards, even if only 50% of one.
