So i been mining, yesterday i got lots of knowledge ranged from 1 to 3 of course, today i been mining for 4 hours none stop but have yet to get 1 to drop…Is there a weekly cap?
yeah it caps out weekly. With mining/herbing once you get the epic quality (+3 KP) drop from the nodes, that’s it for the week.
explains why i havent got any, but i got the 3 and was still getting 1s yesterday guess ill keep mining to sell until tuesday
It’s a hidden cap.
The main problem is the disguise, if you think it’s actually an RNG drop you start doing things like putting profession points into perception and pointlessly grinding for more.
Then you realize it was all for naught. There’s a hidden cap.
Think they put some things like null lotus and null stone on the same system which is even more insidious.
EDIT:
It’s kind of weekly Hidden Cap that may cause people to fear not getting their weekly allotment, but according to experts is in no way a FOMO mechanic disguised as a RNG drop.
I guess they got to cap for a week bc Fun is detected and we know blizzard likes nerfing fun
Or they implemented a cap to keep the profession trees balanced for professions that don’t gather. Not to mention there was a weekly cap in DF as well.
There are two systems: One is the Polished Slate items that give some +1s and end with a +3. The other are null slivers, which serve as a catch-up mechanic for the polished slate that you didn’t obtained in prior weeks.
ya its like people where forced to pick the ones they picked…oh wait…
Its also like people dont play alts and are forced to stick with 1 toon
It’s always been the limited supply of knowledge points that has made this system bad. There shouldn’t be a weekly cap, there should be a total cap that goes up each week this would provide a catch up mechanism.
well, no, you can still get all the profession knowledge, you’ll just be behind by a bit.
FOMO would be more like if an item was going away and never obtainable again so you need to get it RIGHT NOW
That would be the FEAR of MISSING out bit. You do it every week to the cap or you miss out and fall behind.
I understand the design decision of there being a weekly cap, I just strongly disagree with hiding it behind an RNG drop rate that makes it seem like you can just keep farming and add points to perception to get even more.
It leads to an “It was all a big lie” realization
but what are you missing out on? you’ll stil get there eventually.
by your logic everything is FOMO.
FOMO is when you miss out, not when you’re slower.
Having weekly caps in knowledge point gains is not at all similar to rolling alts or being able to swap professions. Unsure what you were trying to point out there.
A blue post stated a couple months ago that there is a catch up mechanic for profession knowledge. I don’t use gathering professions, so I don’t know how it works there, but they did say that there was a system in place.
What ever you want to call it, the mechanic is you can only get so many per week and if you miss a week you end a week later than everyone that didn’t.
I don’t care what you call that but that’s what it is.
I would argue that you are not even that much slower since if you fail to get all the points you could in a week, you get the catch up mechanic next week. You can gather extra little things that will raise you to the cap that people who did the quests/gathered to the cap each week do not get.
You were looting catch-up knowledge.
to be clear, I’m not defending the system, a catchup mechanic of some kind would be great.
but I just think terminology is important when talking about issues and presenting arguments.
FOMO is too often used to whip the forums into a frenzy, regardless of the accuracy of its use. The term seems to just trigger people.
Perhaps if companies used less of it, people wouldnt be so adverse to it… Just a token of thought
You can keep track of knowledge including weekly knowledge and catch up knowledge using weakauras like:
