Frost mages are fine, no need to balance them…
Not like people are parsing 99% and are being beaten by people parsing half of that.
Oh wait…

to be 13th place with a 99% while yo’ure 12 ilvl higher than someone with a 38% parse whose 2.5k ahead on damage. feels good

Yep that is what I am seeing too. People are like “someone has to be last” and I say by this bloody much!

Last vs Worst :expressionless: sure someone gonna be last, of course, woul dbe fine, if not by such a large degree from even being average or viable

Thought for sure this thread would get more of a reaction

It’s not even the fact that Frost is last that anyone who plays a mage, no matter the spec, should be a little worried . . . it’s looking at the bigger picture . . . looking at all three specs. The class as a whole is one of the worst performing classes. Yes, Frost is in bad shape, but to only be addressing it is short sighted and will only achieve more in-class issues. People are crying because Fire is the top performing mage spec again, but overall Fire really isn’t in a great spot either (sure it’s significantly above Frost, but it’s not at the levels of Balance/Unholy/Shadow/Aff/MM). Arcane is performing pretty poorly too.

If Blizzard addresses Frost, and only Frost, it likely wouldn’t be enough to get them out of the bottom fourth of the specs. I’m not saying Frost doesn’t deserve a buff, but I’m saying that pushing solely for Frost, while neglecting Arcane, and crying for Fire Nerfs will only potentially lead to more problems for a class that is in a very poor place right now when looking at it holistically.

I’m not saying anyone in this topic has done this, but it is happening on these forums. All three specs need to be adjusted.

I’m not sure if I should continue to hold out for hope of a good balance pass… Or reroll for the entire xpac at this point. I’ve played mage for so long as my main. at least since Cata for sure. I’ve played all 3 specs and all 3 specs have pluses and minuses to them. I was hoping to play Frost this go round since I did Arcane with a little fire the last go and fire in Legion. But these numbers make me want to shelve my mage and this time not because my guild needs a tank or healer, but because I’m dragging the performance of my guild as a whole down.

I’d hope that Blizzard sees these numbers and are taking them into account, but with how quick they jumped on other classes I’m beginning to think they just don’t care since we’re not in the top 5.

I kind of just want to go Fire/NF and deal with it, but I don’t want to spend time redoing my entire Renown. At the same time, I’m more likely to uninstall/unsub because giving into the “Fire or bust” mentality is what Blizzard apparently wants.

I’d actually argue that Blizzard has the mentality of “drop mage altogether or bust” but maybe that’s a tad too cynical for some to believe.

I agree. I’m fine with bein overly cynical after having played this game since Wrath and seeing how terrible the developers are at class balance - or in this case, making a class viable. Fire may be “viable” to some degree, but it’s hardly on everyone’s first pick list.

Oh 100% if viable means because it does more dps than the classes other two specs that are ranked #17 and #24 and can put down a table and press a group buff then by all means the spec is 100% A-Okay! (Just disregard the fact that it is 7th out of 8 of the top Ranged Spec for each class—that’s not important). You’re crazy for implying anything by your quotes around “viable.” Fire is fine, mage is fine, everything is fine.

It’s insanity that anyone has faith in the class design team and balance team at all in this game. Two expansions in a row and some specs have not recieved any new abilities or significant change at all and in many cases are worse. It is by far the worst class design team of any thriving mmorpg right now in terms of class/spec fun and viability. When I play something like FFXIV I want to play every single job because every single job is fun and designed very well. When I play WoW is struggle to find a single spec to play because most of them feel jank or too rng and in many cases they just suck until a year down the line when stats get good and gear carries otherwise bad specs.

Blizzard holds no I’ll will towards mages, but I think realistically they are apathetic towards mages right now or don’t know how to fix them.

Never said they did. I believe they are apathetic, out of touch, poorly staffed, and incompetent personally—never said they held any vendetta or anything of the sort.

Apparently arcane mages seem to be doing ok somehow:

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/statistics/26#dataset=95

Sorry I’m going to be lazy because I’ve discussed this in several posts already. The first part of this post is discussing Arcane in Heroic, and the second Mythic.

Yea, if we only look at H Nathria, the dataset shows that frost is poopoo (arcane isn’t much better.) Fire seems to be quite above average.

Fire seems to be at/near the top and most preferred spec of any class in Mythic+, although Marksman hunter is definitely also in that debate.

In pvp, as far as I can tell, both fire and arcane are seeing solid performance on the ladder, and afaik frost still does well there for 90% of the playerbase that’s bold enough to queue for arenas.

So frost might need buffs, but also it has (in my experience) always been the least -performing mage spec in raids, at least as far as I can remember (not counting early vanilla.)

So, to ask another question… What is the deal with the players that are still playing frost? Why have you not pressed N and chosen a different spec? Is it a psychological thing?

(I should add, that I also have a max level mage in most expacs, and I pretty much also exclusively play frost. Therefore, there is currently no need for me to bother leveling it at this time.)

You assume that I ever was Frost, went Venthyr, crafted a Frost Leggo? Lol. You know what they say about assumptions.

You seem to be evading the original point of why you tagged me in a post, which I responded to, Arcane’s performance in Mythic. Which will be gutted come Tuesday.

Also I press “N” to change specs.
