"we'd prefer that any version of vanilla not be a "gather everything up and AoE it down" at all times."

With the introduction of Runes in World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, players are experiencing a significant increase in damage output, often reaching 2-3 times their previous levels. This escalation in power, evident from Phase 2, suggests an ongoing trend that will likely intensify as players approach level 60. This change raises concerns about the current and future balance of tanking capabilities, particularly in managing multiple mobs.

The increased damage output due to Runes highlights a critical issue: if tanks aren’t equipped with additional tools to manage this power creep, even handling 2-3 mobs could become unmanageable. This challenge is compounded by suggestions that AoE threat capabilities for some tanks may face reductions. Such adjustments could significantly impact gameplay, especially in a season dedicated to exploring new ideas and abilities.

Season of Discovery is all about Blizzard testing new concepts and enhancing the player experience. Rather than constraining tanks’ AoE capabilities, there’s a unique opportunity to introduce innovative mechanics that encourage creative problem-solving with each dungeon pull. The traditional Vanilla strategy of crowd control and targeted mob elimination, while familiar, often leads to repetitive gameplay that culminates in straightforward, less challenging boss encounters.

To move beyond this repetitive cycle, Blizz should incorporate environmental hazards and dynamic elements within dungeon maps. Such features would not only diversify the tactical options available to players but also encourage the use of specific mechanics over others. By fostering unique experiences, Blizzard can create more memorable and engaging encounters that demand players to adapt and innovate, enriching the overall gameplay experience.

“Unless you main paladin, have fun!”

I’d love to see dungeon mobs actually be dangerous, like if dps pulls threat they get clapped and it’s on them.

It feels like “We want every DPS to feel powerful and receive game breaking abilities, but we want tanks to be limited to Vanilla design.”

Yeah, the power creep is real. Untanked mobs don’t hurt enough.

They will at 60.

I replied to this somewhere else, but they are essentially just making tanking frustrating.

DPS don’t care if they pull aggro, they never will if they can tank them just fine. If they don’t want takes to be able to keep up, people will just stop bringing tanks.

They already do this.

If you aren’t going to make the argument for yourself then why make the thread.

Ran Scarlet Monastery yesterday with a group composition of a Priest healer, a Ret Paladin, a Hunter, a Warlock, and myself as a Mage. It was remarkably smooth. We relied on the Hunter’s pet for bosses and handled the mob packs with our DPS.

Yeah I guess I knew that, but the majority of players still fill a tank slot (even if they ignore the role when they get inside). If they continue with this philosophy even the average group will just fill 4 dps.

I don’t follow. Could you elaborate?

Someone already did, you just used chatGPT to make the entire post for yourself. Why should people go to the effort of a substantive reply when you cannot be bothered to make the thread without having AI do it for you.

You can’t just blame Chatgpt for everything you don’t like reading.

I appreciate that you and some others will mistake my writing for ChatGPT. To me, this speaks highly of my capabilities as a writer. I can’t take all of the credit though, I do use tools for grammar and spell checks, such as Grammarly. While the use of these tools can enhance my execution, this writing reflects my voice and my effort. If reading this post can become frustrating for you, then I suggest that you git gud.

They’re telling you that your writing doesn’t sound human and you took it as a compliment.
