I remember upon release that Weaponsmith was a separate craft from Armorsmith. I remember choosing Weaponsmith for one of my characters. I know it was folded into Armorsmith at some time. When did this occur?
People are talking now about Weaponsmith being a speciality of Armorsmith which would imply that it was made part of Armorsmith with a 1.x update. Is this true? Will there be no separate Weaponsmith craft in Classic?
I may be wrong, but I believe that blacksmiths could specialize in either armorsmith and weaponsmith (with weaponsmith being further divided into sword, axe and mace specialties) all through vanilla. Blacksmiths were not required to specialize in armorsmith or weaponsmith, but there were some BOP items that blacksmiths could not create without specializing.
I believe that it was not until cata that weaponsmith and armorsmith specializations were removed.
note that iirc there were no recipes limited by specialisation in BC and Wrath. So when the specialisation was removed in Cata it only affected Vanilla recipes.
They should not be part of Classic, but I do know that TBC had specialized weaponsmith patterns.
There were one and two handed maces that could only be made by hammersmiths, one and two handed axes that could only be made by axesmiths and one and two handed swords that could only be made by swordsmiths. Each category had weapon that once made could be upgraded to a second weapon which could then be upgraded into a third weapon.

It’s a little inaccurate to say they’re separate crafts.
They are both specialties of Blacksmithing. A character cannot be both an Armorsmith and a Weaponsmith, but they’re still related under the Blacksmithing umbrella.

I am quite aware that Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing are specialties of Blacksmithing. That’s what I was attempting to get at.
