Weapons for leveling through Legion

Having done the slog through Levels 1-60, I enjoyed a nice 20 level stint in the Fjords and Grizzly Hills. I’m neck deep in tea leaves and panda fur for now, but will need to leave the beautifully lush continent of Pandaria behind in another few levels.

My question is this: once I get to the Legion xpac, is it best to keep my heirloom weapons since the Legendaries got neutered? Or is there some compelling reason to track them down and use them?

I have no wish to linger in Legion or WoD (shudders involuntarily) and only want to breeze through these two areas as quick as possible.

BTW, I do not use dungeons as a leveling mechanic so please don’t suggest that. I’d rather use a wee set of rusty pliers to pluck me nose hairs out one by one than tank for a bunch of rude randos

Your heirloom weapons don’t provide an xp boost, and generally your legion weapons will be higher ilvl than the heirlooms as you keep getting upgrades to them throughout leveling.

That being said, leveling through legion takes all of a few hours if you’re using a full set of heirlooms and are alliance in warmode (extra 25% right now, would be stupid not to take advantage of it.), so it probably doesn’t matter much either way.

Thanks for the insight, mate! That’s what I was looking for.

I’ve done it a few times in bfa and I always swap to the artifact weapons, the quests to get them give some xp anyway so its not much of a hassle and they are better than the heirloom weapons even without the extra abilities

Keep an eye out for the legion invasions as well. Pretty solid chunk of xp gain when they’re up

Depends. I’m using my Gary looms instead.

I’ll definitely give it a shot and get the weapons then. :+1:

Before a 1-1/2 year hiatus, I rather enjoyed the first half of Legion. Class halls, Legendaries, Dhadgar, it all was pretty decent stuff. I’m not going to go into why I stopped playing for so long, this isn’t the thread for that. Just looking to do the funnest early stuff from several xpacs on my eventual way to BfA.

Of course, my main alt is gaining Proudmoore Exalted today, so I’ll have to split time with a thicc Kul Tiran sister. Thinking maybe another rogue would be good.

Eventually, once I ding 120, will probably retire in Pandaland to finish all of the zone quests and storylines. There should be ample time for that before the next xpac drops

PS: Legion Invasions you say, Goobdaysir? I’ll have to look into those! Been far too long out of Legion, forgot nearly everything.

Edited for a wee bit o spelling

time invested>calendar.

I just do invasions and skip everything else including weapons and halls.

You no longer upgrade Legion weapons. Leveling now you receive them as they were after we sacrificed them to help with The big sword in Silithus.

You kind of need to get the weapons, at least the 1st one, to progress. Kind of depends on if your burning thru to 120 or completing class hall for transmog and mounts if it’s worth getting the others.

Relics still increase the ilvl of the weapons

Can they be equipped to the weapon? I just got the weapon and moved on.

Use the Heirlooms to the max you have and switch to the Legion weapon when you get it. Heirloom weps, while good, are weak compared to even the depowered Artifacts.

Cora is correct. You can still insert the relics into the weapon for an ilvl increase. That’s what I meant by them upgrading through the leveling process.

Yea, I sneak into 120 mog runs sometimes and when I get the artifact relics, I dump them into my legion artifacts and raise the ilvl of them that way.

Depends on your heirlooms, and if you do some quests for the relics. My heirlooms i got from Garrosh in MoP outleveled heirlooms up until first relic, then artifact had some bit of a higher ilevel, then a level or two later heirloom again. Just made more sense keeping heirloom on dude, the power difference is so small

The way they deprecated the Artifact Power really stripped a lot of the Legion leveling experience. I know they wanted a reset for BfA but they should have done it another way IMO.
