Weapon type restrictions on cross spec artifact transmog (change asap)

So you make this big cool change! Hey guys we’re going to let you use all the other specs artifacts! It opens up so many cool possibilities.

Awesome I think I spent a ton of time unlocking all the legion stuff on my new mage I can’t wait to make cool transmog with my fire and arcane skins as a frost mage.

Only to login today and realize that my DAGGER can’t transmog into ANY of the arcane or fire artifact skins…why? Well I assume because you felt the need to restrict the ability to use this cool new feature to specific weapon type. So my mage can’t EVER use any fire or arcane skins while I have a dagger because they have a 1 hander sword and a staff. Of course my frost mage can transmog all my frost artifact skins despite having a dagger so why the bloody hell did you do this.

Please PLEASE fix this, it essentially makes this feature completely non functional unless you have the right weapon type for mages and I assume some other specs as well. Please blizzard don’t just leave this ridiculous situation without fixing it.

It was advertised with this restriction from the start.

There is no fix as its intended.

Its not specific weapon type either, its regular Xmog rules. 2h to 2h, Mh to Mh, 1h to 1h, ect.

Your sword is a MH, your dagger is not. This too was covered, if you had a MH dagger you could Mog the sword.

Then why allow a player to spec his current weapon (my dagger) to my frost legendaries. It breaks the rules to do so. There is zero consistent logic to these rules.

I’m not sure what you mean by the legendaries.

Again, Xmog restrictions are as follows.

2H <> 2H
MH <> MH
1H <> 1H
1H > MH
OH <> OH
Wand <> Wand

It has been that way since the pooling of weapons was added. This isn’t new.

1H weapon animations work in either hand, MH animation is not the same and is only coded to work in the MH.

You can’t apply MH to 1H because people will try to DW MHs or use MHs in OH slots and that won’t work. They can’t stop you from putting it in the OH slot, on a 1h weapon with a transmog flag. So they had to do what they did. Its very simple really.

If you want to use your MH artifact for xmog get a MH Dagger, or Sword.

If you want to use the staff get a 2H weapon.

Again, Xmog restrictions are as follows.

2H <> 2H
MH <> MH
1H <> 1H
1H > MH
OH <> OH
Wand <> Wand

It has been that way since the pooling of weapons was added. This isn’t new.

Actually, what you said isn’t entirely correct. I used to be able to transmog my 1H to a Dagger or wand. Now I cannot transmog my 1H to either of those.

What I said, is 100% entirely correct.

They just reiterated it.

“I used to be able to transmog my 1H to a Dagger”
What 1h? What Dagger? Need more info.

“I used to be able to transmog my 1H to a Wand”
Has never been possible, is complained about in a new thread every other month.

Old Rules from the Wiki:
"Weapon compatibilities

In general when transmogrifying weapons, target and source have to be of the same type. However, this restriction has been relaxed in certain ways since the introduction of Transmogrification. As stated at the beginning of the article, the player in question must be able to use the source and the target; this also includes being the appropriate level for using an item. For example, a druid can equip a polearm or a staff, and transmog one into the other. However a mage cannot transmog their staff into a polearm because they cannot equip polearms.

Weapon types that can be transmogrified to each other:

  • Ranged weapons (bows, crossbows and guns)
  • Two-handed axes, maces, and swords, staves and polearms
  • One-handed axes, maces, swords, and warglaives

This leaves daggers, fist weapons, wands, shields and off-hand items as incompatible to other weapon types."

That has since changed as well, Daggers follow the 1h Rules, as do Fist Weapons. Wands, OHs and Shields still applies.
