what weapon will you prefer in classic wow
Are you a tank? Fast
Are you a DPS? Slow for main hand or two hand and fast for offhand.
For feral weapon speed doesn’t matter.
Yes. I do like it.
Since they have weapon normalization in, it’s not a terribly big deal.
Though Warrior tanks like fast ones to get Rage back faster.
U giv cat stat stix prez.
Depends on what you’re doing, for instance Rogues want a slow MH but fast OH for crippling poison. Shaman however want slower weapons to get bigger/more consistent weapon procs.
Melee weapon is a stat stick. Wand is whatever has best stats+DPS.
This entirely depends on the class aswell as the build.
If you’re an arms warrior you want a slow weapon for bigger MS numbers. Fury you want faster weapons to help with rage generation. Prot you’ll want fast as possible to generate rage as fast as you can.
Other classes I’m not so sure about as I’ve only ever really played a warrior since Vanilla.
Depends on the race. If gnome, I go unarmed to surrender myself more easily to the horde.
For troll, probably Atiesh for the weapon speed
For non-DW classes/specs, 2H with slow but not-too-slow in order to get more hits and hit harder each time.
Anything over 3.5 for a warrior using a 2H is in a diminishing returns point. Yeah, you hit hard as a MF, but you don’t hit very often so you better be willing to take some punches in the meantime. 3.2 seems to be the sweetspot.
If you’re tanking, as other have said, you want something that hits 2.2 or faster in order to keep up frequent attacks. You won’t hit very hard but you’ll hit a lot and can perform moves sooner and as a tank it matters how fast you can get it off. The thing about creeping up into 2.2 zone is that you’ll balance that with slightly more rage generation than a lower damage / faster weapon would give you.
Rogues and other dual-wield specs play by a different set of rules because it becomes a matter of timing your attacks and the abilities that are off-hand driven.
3.2 seems too slow. The whirlwind Axe being @ 3.8 seems perfectly fine to me. Sure, I might get hit one extra time, but when that next hit connects and it crits for like, 600 damage it’s not really a big deal.
You’re not wrong. I’m using a 3.8 weapon right now and I do love those 600+ dmg crits. But sometimes when you’re running as DPS in a dungeon run and dealing with a pack of mobs it can sometimes seem like forever and a day for you to get a hit off while the rest of the group shreds through them.
Eh, it still is. Some abilities aren’t normalized. And slower weapons have a bigger damage range.
Normalization closed the gap some, but didn’t get rid of it.
That is true, it does seem to happen quite a bit. Weirdly enough though my damage done/DPS is usually on par if not slightly ahead with others in the group even with the longer wait times.
I forgot to mention I agree 1,000% on the tanking side of things. If I can’t find a good sword or something in the 2.0-2.2 range I’ll go grab some crap white dagger @ like, 1.6 to tank with.
Speed doesnt matter. Top end matters. It just follows that slower weps usually have higher top end.
at least that is the case for dps warriors/pallies. Because their dmging abilities are based on wep dmg and higher top end means those abilities hit harder.
Fast weps are good for war tanking because of rage gains.
You may want to clarify your title…
As for weapon speeds…
Paladin/Shaman: Top DPS
Rogue: Hardest hitter for main hand, DPS for off hand.
Ranged: Hardest hitter, ignore DPS entirely. Faster is just a waste of ammo.
Warrior: This one really varies. If you don’t have sweep/mortal, you can basically use whatever you want. Fury can freely slot whatever is highest DPS.
Tanking = Always fast.
Leveling = usually always fast.
PVP = Slow
PVE = Usually slow not always, best DPS.
will a slower speed weapon crit more than a faster speed weapon
You know, I’ve been on this fast is better for tanking train, and now I’m not entirely sure why.
Can you explain why faster = better?
