I know it’s not a performance priority… however, I can’t find anything about if the devs have implemented the ability to mog a two-handed weapon into a one handed one which seemed to be something they were implementing.
There is nothing yet. Very early in alpha testing I discovered a non-funcitoning passive which indicated that Fury would be able to transmog 2h → 1h. It was removed before public testing began, followed by that bluepost stating that there are plans still in the works.
I want to be very clear that just because this passive effect existed at some point doesn’t mean that it is their final intent though. It may have been hidden because it was not yet implemented, or because their plans changed - we simply have to wait to find out.
The spell no longer exists in our spell database, but that still doesn’t mean much at this stage.
Personally id love to see SMF be made distinct and preferable in certain builds. Giving players more options for how to play is always good if it’s done well.
That said, if they’re not confident about their changes or they do some pithy 1% attack speed bonus, just make it so we can mog 1H on 2Hs.
Unfortunately this sounds better on paper than in practice, because it results in a situation where players feel like they need a set of one-handers for one game mode and a set of two-handers for another.
Not only is this something no other class has to deal with, there’s no way to even effectively loot 1hrs if that is your preference without also keeping 2hrs on the table (or using Prot loot spec, which introduces its own issues).
Tmog has always been the most straightforward solution that does the most good for the most number of players. I can see Blizzard being loathe to do it, because then you have Enh Shamans asking why they can’t mog 2hrs, Death Knights asking for the same treatment, casters asking why they can’t mog 1h + offhand to a staff, and so on… but that’s a whole other conversation.
If this was Diablo it’d be more easy to pull off. I guess part of me is nostalgic for a time like in Mists where we made more of a long term commitment to SMF or TG. It doesn’t really suit the genre anymore. (And if memory serves, TG was almost always better anyway.)
Interestingly, SMF was slightly better for pure single target throughout Mists, while TG was slightly better in multitarget.
For the true power users, 2h was generally better itemized, but the distinction was a largely academic since gear availability was much lower, so you just used whatever you happened to have access to.
Although still random drops, we now have much more control over the loot we get from Mythic+, vaults, and other sources of personalized loot, so the distinction is much more important.
Thank you for the responses. I was really hoping I’d missed something. Oh well guess we find out if Blizzard will honor this with greater conviction than they have All classes for All Races.
