If you’re not BM. Is there any specific pet out there that won’t take the L out in the open world even ? It’s absurd that our pets are this weak.
Any recommendations?
I started running some bg’s and that’s where it’s actually obvious. My pets getting 100% killed by AoE multiple times. Never seen that before.
Yeah I’ve been a Hunter since vanilla for every expansion. And I don’t remember this being this weak.

Mend pet and a well timed exhilaration can save you pet. I use a ferocity pet for the leech is helpful too.
If you are doing epic battlegrounds your pet will die quickly. Put you pet on passive if you are in a big pvp fight. You can still ise kill command, just use “Pet follow” afterwords so they come back to you. Ill bomb, serpent,explosive shot, kill and kc till aspect of the eagle is back up.
What about open world. Doing elite mobs and such. I enjoy farming on survival hunter WAAAAAAYYY better than BM. But my pet keeps dying.
Edit : also I do have the mending talent. I haven’t tried a leech pet though I’m using tenacity.

Mostly just try to maintain Mend Pet as needed, and perhaps let it drop aggro occasionally if that’s still not enough, especially if you’re running a Leech pet (not because Leech helps the pet worth a damn on SV, as pet damage is too low, but because you are then healing yourself back up while the pet tanks again).
Remember also that you can mini-kite with Lunge, you have Binding Shot, Aspect of the Eagle, can Harpoon to critters or weaker mobs to escape, can have your pet Kill Command to a weaker target and then Growl the rare before running off via Move To, etc.
- Heck, your pet can kite almost infinitely while you kill, just by using Growl and Move To.
It’s probably a good idea to get used to using Growl manually anyways, and those small optimizations can likewise be fun.
Oh, if you do end up giving up on Open World SVing and swap to BM, though, definitely go with a Leech pet at that point. Can also avoid Animal Companion so that your main pet has higher damage and can therefore better keep itself alive.
that is some INSANE micro managing, i dont even know how that’s possibl with all the other buttons i have.

You get used to it if speedleveling or just doing random sh*t for the giggles (duoing usually 5-manned dungeons, etc.).
If you plan on doing M+ eventually, Growl and Move To are worth a bind, though. They can be very useful for dragging ranged mobs around corners via LoS, soaking AoE-spamming adds (think Sanguine Depths 2nd boss), or dropping death-goop away from valuable floor space.
Get a scalehide. They’re ferocity, so they get leech + give you bloodlust, and their special ability is 50% damage reduction for 12 sec on a 1 min cd. If you still struggle try switching some points into improved mend pet, as well.

For world elites, make sure you are interrupting and using intimidation for uninteruptable abilities. You can feign death and freeze trap for additional interrupts.
Feeze trap can also give you time to heal your pet full or res if it dies.
