It has to be Mechagnomes. High elves wouldn’t work cause even though lore wise it would make sense, people would get them confused too often for blood elves, and the alliance already got void elves so not gonna happen. The Sethrak would be cool but blizzard probably wouldn’t want to spend the time figuring out how the helm or genders would work, nor how to tie in their purpose for being with the alliance. Fish people would be stupid, and I don’t think anyone would ever want or ask to play as an uglier version of the goblins. Similar to the nightborne, Mechagnomes are an important race in the expansion due to the story written about them, so it would only make sense for blizzard to choose not only one of the most purposeful races, but one thats easy to work with without having to put much effort into. They’re already using an existing player-character body structure of the regular gnomes. If the mechagnomes don’t become an allied race, I will honestly be surprised.

Don’t forget that the mechagnomes are re-animated and don’t just reuse gnome animations entirely. Not many re-animated bits, but they have brand new dances and possibly a stand (though that may be the model viewers bugging up)
Effort’s plain and simple to see, its those two
Helms would work on Sethrak just as well as they work on worgen and tauren, which is not at all 9/10 times but everyone is fine with that. There’s a female Sethrak model already with Sethraliss - it’s not super distinct but there’s clear differences. And the story could be written easily.
That being said, yeah, it’s probably going to be mechagnomes. This comic they put out cements it: they’ve seen the negative reactions and are trying to sell them to us. I’m not buying, but it’s not like we have much of a choice at this point.
One major issue that many over look is the Horde will have the same exact reputation and questhub with the mech gnomes too. It isn’t Alliance exclusive.
Also the general consensus of the mechagnomes have been poor as possible allied race.
Hardly a problem with Lightforged, Highmountain or Nightbourne, won’t be a problem with them either
We have Blood Elfs and Nightborne.
Thats the same thing that happend on argus with the Light forged, but they became an alliance allied race.

Hardly an issue. If you mained alliance in Legion, you spent a lot of time saving the Nightborne from literal extinction via “gift from the Legion”. That’s done and they’re like “thanks later”, join the Horde because Tyrande was a meanie and declare war against you. I bet that feels great!
This doesn’t mean much coming from a race that eats rocks.
I’d rather have a race that doesn’t look like another short human. Sethrekk are so cool and unique and should be a DK race
I will accept all blame if/when we get Junkers as a playable AR. I’ve wanted one since forever (well, technically I wanted Mechagnomes, but I have warmed up to the Junkers after seeing PTR footage), so feel free to direct all hate towards me.
(I do want Sethrak as well tho, sleeping-snek is cute snek)
It says something that nearly everybody that defends junkgnomes is posting on a gnome main. I mean I’m glad you’re getting some racial development for the first time in 15 years (even if it is technically through another race) but I’d really rather have something with a bit wider of an appeal.

Sorry, but the wider appeal feels sooooo overdone. We might as well retitle WoW as WoE, World of Elfcraft as it is already.
Anything gnome-focused will always be not a broad appeal, that doesn’t mean we should be ignored forever. There are more of us than one would think, and as far as broad appeal is concerned:
-Straight back orcs
-Dark Iron dwarfs
-Zandalaris
All the other ARs are random crap though.

Could care less about more elves (although San’layn are cool as hell)
except the expansion ended, so their rep and questlines didn’t matter at that point of the story… so unless mechagnomes are added as a race post-BFA, then yes, that’s a possibility, but during bfa while the horde are still actively questing with them and gaining reputation, there’d be a conflict lorewise.
