see my problem is I havent been going hardcore into SL pre release research (in fact have done none, I see words on these forums but i dont know what they mean if they are content or zones or whatever). I just hope that i dont nerf myself out of contention by “accidentally” picking something thats just weak because reasons.
Is this one of those things where i need to pull up a 3rd party optimal talent guide and pick what it says in order to be effective in the content i want to do?
The real question is how close are the Covenants? If, as DW Frost, I go Necrolords instead of Night Fae, am I going to be just a hair below where I would be or will I be losing to the healer?
It’s never going to be perfectly balanced but the key is to get them close enough that people don’t feel like they’re crippling themselves or their team by picking an off-meta choice.
Can’t be that close when one covenant give you dps ability and the other make you heal your ally… The dps ability will always be way stronger for a dps.
Like I said in the earlier thread - expecting a 25% split between covenants or 100% one covenant is dumb . Many players have many reasons to join a specific covenant. Some you will not agree because it does not fit your cause
Still not sure why you are expecting damage abilities to sim the same as utility abilities.
Also what is the difference? You are using data that says X is better than Y, that could be 0.1% difference, that could be 20% difference.
There is a lot left out of the equation from the source.
I don’t personally know the answer to that but if past experience with Blizzard is any indication it ain’t 0.1%. They’ve been completely oblivious to 100-200% differentials in BFA and that had less dials to turn than Shadowlands.
Plus in 3 months time someone like Rextroy will discover another BFA Fire Mage-esque synergy combo that will make this chart obsolete. Gonna be a rollercoaster.
To be clear, while the chart looks ridiculous with Nightfae being the go-to for like 90% of DPS in both Mythic+ and Raiding, the actual performance gap between covenants in MOST cases seems to be surprisingly small, like 1-2%.
It’s scary to look at a chart that takes out any actual data like this. Makes it look worse than it really is for people who are conflicted about choosing power or aesthetics/story.
