We really need a better catch up mechanic for corruption resistance

Why? The expansion is winding down. Why put effort into it at this point?

To have fun

not always, for example an IRL friend of mine wanted to raid with us since her guild isn’t really running content anymore. but couldn’t afford a server transfer but had a 110 boost laying around, so she’s boosted and lvld but will take months to catch up on her cloak (if its even possible at this point, since 5 months puts us right in the range of a potential shadowlands launch)

IMO since we have hit a point where with the current catchup speed it might not even be possible for a new character to catch up before shadowlands, its time to increase the max number of cores per week (maybe add a third for running any m+ or something)

once an actual release date is announced there is also a good chance we will be seeing a bunch of returning players who either skipped bfa, or quit partway through who want to catch the tail end of the expansion. I don’t see any reason why they should be arbitrarily prevented from having even a chance at catching up.

5 months of time-gating at the end of an expansion is far too much.

New players to the game?

Ita pretty silly honestly. It’s the end of the expansion . Let players go nuts. All this stuff will be obsolete day 1 of shadowlands.

or will it? dun dun dunnnnnnn

If we break this down adding corruption resistance past the rank 15 isn’t needed, it’s just extra damage basically and the longer amount of time you can spend in visions and sanity loss areas in that regard. Whether that’s on an alt or a new player starting late it’s not like adding another 5% damage to your toon is going to open a lot of doors for you, it’s not like you’re immediately going to get into mythic unless you can do mechanics. That’s basically all it is other than damage is it gives you more of a ceiling for failure when getting hit by mechanics especially in visions.
There is a lack of content I agree and most people will turn to leveling alts as a time sink, but typically if you’re starting this late or have been leveling alts for some time now it’s not like the content you’re probably doing hinders on whether or not you’re caught up, it’s not like normal/heroic/visions are difficult. Me personally I don’t like the idea of alts as they’re pretty useless other than maybe professions, bank toons and farming mounts for more lockouts, I also find unless you’re in a top 300 guild most players that have alts typically suck on their main which is where I personally would divert most of my attention if that’s the case.

I used to passionately agree with these threads. But now that I’m nearly caught up, I no longer feel as strongly about the subject. :sunglasses:

This is again, for pvp where yes 50 extra corruption is a massive different at semidescent rating. Why are we defending time gated content 5 months after a patch has come out. I don’t understand this.

If you’re doing anything seriously you would’ve been doing it from the start in my opinion, not 6 months down the line. I just see this as a 2 hour a week play time excuse. It doesn’t hinder your game play what so ever, get rank 15 and you’re good, you can do the same content at rank 15 compared to down the line after you’ve collected more resist.

How could I know my friend wanted to push rating 3-4 months into a patch? Please again tell me why you are defending timegated content 5 months after a patch is out?

OP’s gripe is legitimate. They don’t want free things. They want to put in the same effort they did for their main to catchup. Blizzard won’t let them due to arbitrary time gating. Come on, now.

I swear man, people just want to argue on forums. I bet half the people here posting actually agree its pretty silly =)

Yeah I don’t get it. We’ve had catch ups since the end of TBC what’s the issue with this one? We even have one currently to help get your cloak to R15 that’s only limited by how many vessels you have.

I have to agree with the OP. Just make it like the Cloak level catch up and allow unlimited upgrades until cap limited by Vessels.

I agree in that regard but in reverse, I feel most people that complain on these forums are given the tools to do what they want but they need a crutch to get them there, kind of like bumpers in bowling or t ball or something of the sort. I personally don’t feel the corruption resist affects your game play what so ever, it’s a passive damage increase you get the longer you play, it’s not like adding another 5% to your damage is going to automatically get you into higher difficult content, the other aspect to it like I said the sanity loss just makes it so you can spend less time in visions and other sanity loss areas. I also think from the start of an expac/tier other than say azerite for the neck, you should have to spend the same time/effort through an expac to catch up, the same as if you played from the start. The difference here is that the traits on the azerite can change the core of your character, yes some are passive but to play specific specs/classes you need specific traits for them to be competitive. Passive damage increase basically from the corruption resist is just a power creep.

5% different in damage while might not seem like a lot for raiding heroic or m+, in pvp its massive. And this is to assume its only 5% percent, some folks corruptions are doing about 20-30% of their damage in pvp. Vers stacking you can get 20%+ passive damage mitation + the dps increase from vers as well…

It’s a big difference between equally skilled opponents. And this again, I don’t need free stuff, I’ll do the work, just take the time gate off it =)

And mythic N’zoth was downed with cloaks that weren’t even rank 15, so there’s clearly no content that you NEED malefic cores for (let alone need to have just as many as someone else does).

You’re justifying a timegate because a band of nerds grouped up together and spent 20+ million gold on bis corruption, played 2 weeks straight to kill a scripted PvE Boss. It great they can accomplish that but when you play PvP vs equally skilled opponents, you should have an equal chance if you put in the time on your character regardless of when it was started.

I’ve seen ppl get to 2.4K rating with like 30 corruption max. There’s no excuse

Edit: EQUAL CHANCE? Lmao. Nice dampening effect that only hurts tanks/heals. Nice arena only nerfs for tanks in arena. “Equal.”

You could get 2.4 with minimal gear if your entire team is rank 1 retardedly good at the game. Even then, that is a stretch. And no you haven’t seen that except week one or two. The fact you are even saying that is hilarious.
