any time someone posts about how much they hate shadowlands (despite it being a mid expansion, at worst)
I end up loving it just a little bit more.
You can love it all you want, doesn’t mean it wasn’t an objectively bad expansion that drove enough players away that Blizzard had to do a course correction.
…or so the Jailer wants you to think.
Did you look at the graph? Don’t you see the down slope on BfA?
So what do you think Ion said to Preach?
What course correction?
In Shadowlands
- Disaster happened. Bolvar Fordragon sent out a call to the Champions.
- We answered the call and went to Shadowlands.
- We found villains, we found mobs and we found a mess.
- We did quests, we did dungeons and we did raids
- And the Champions saved the day.
In Dragonflight
- Disaster happened. Kadhgar sent out a call to the Champions.
- We answered the call and went to the Dragon Isles
- We found villains, we found mobs and we found a mess.
- We did quests, we did dungeons and we did raids
- And the Champions saved the day.
So exactly what was this course correction?
No borrowed power…
New talent system…
No forced legendary grinds…
Covenants gone…
You know… things we actually do in game…
The talent system IS borrowed power. We get new talents that give us new buttons, the next season they are different and the next expansion they are gone replaced by new ones. How is that different?
In Shadowlands we have the Rune Carver. We would pick up memories and had him make things. Now we have Crafted gear with Valerstones and Crests. One is better than the other?
Covenants were easy. You put your main in one, leveled three alts with Threads of Fate and you had all three. Unless you were racing for World First in High Level Mythic the difference between the Covenant powers was marginal if that.
Even that isnt true, the Anima grind is still terrible. The insanely low drop rates and long spawn times are still terrible.
I understand it’s an awful grind. But like I said, you can skip whatever you don’t like. I am not one of those who cares about buying all the things, so after I get a character up to renown 80 (by buying the 60 renown token and then grinding out the few remaining levels) I’m done. The only anima grind I do is the weekly 1k quest.
The hardaxe obsession Blizzard had with trying to force everybody to have to put multiple characters of each class and/or armor type (and sometimes of each role) into each covenant because of character limited restrictions meant I no longer care. And even though they have relaxed a lot of those restrictions, since they took the chance on completely breaking players of caring, I guess they won.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
No it’s not
Yes because Valorstones don’t cost 300k gold to use
Im not leveling 3 alts
Night Fae fire was the best M+ spec in the game. Any other Covenant and the spec was unplayable
SL is just a place where covenant transmog exists. Nothing more.
This, I remember watching multiple people sing praises about Torghast during beta, saying that it was good whacky fun, that they could have crazy builds or dog water builds. It was weird watching Torghast go from being one of the few good things about SL to being another pos on the pile.
Shadowlands was… very not good. Just based on travel time alone between zones it a snooze fest.
On the bright side - they had a some nice little pets lol.

Hero talents look like borrowed power to me. For example, Going from Season 1 to Season 2 the MM Hunter’s Black Arrow went from being an additional power to a replacement for an old power. We had one less weapon to use. Why is that not borrowed power?
I see endless complaining about Valorstones and Crests. People ask why do we have to have Valorstones? Why are crests capped? So if this is a course correction, why are people still complaining?
And if Night Fae was so much better, and everyone knew it, why not just pick Night Fae? And if you had already picked one of the other three, that’s just one alt you needed, not three.
Lol, yeah I don’t need to be convinced of hating every single thing that expac did.
Remember how every single event from the dawn of warcraft, through to Arthas events, through to Shadowlands was all mapped out precisely by Zovaal and his 4d chess?
Yeah nah, worst expac of all time. Worst storytelling, worst butchering of lore.
And they held onto it instead of just making it all an old god fever dream lmao
You are wrong
They would complain more if they costed 300k gold
I am not leveling 3 alts
I mean, I personally got some enjoyment out of the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie. But I’m not under any delusions that it was a good movie. I guess the saving grace there is Mario doesn’t really have a timeline or “lore” the way WOW does, just characters, and seemingly a unique story for every game unconnected to the others. So the really weird takes on things in the movie don’t affect the games the way Shadowlands utterly destroyed WOW’s lore.
Now going back to Shadowlands TODAY, with it not being current, and being able to ignore all of it except the parts you want to farm for transmog? It’s not too terrible. But the story is OMG awful. It’s the Metroid Other M of Warcraft. Does that make Dragonflight the Samus Returns of Warcraft?
Question is, can you say why I’m wrong or are you limited to stomping your feet and demanding I’m wrong. It was a power, it got taken away.
One Alt. Zero alts if you had picked Night Fae.
You don’t know what borrowed power means
I am not wasting time on an alt
Apparently you don’t either or you would be telling us what it is to back up your argument.
Yeah, it would involve what high end players hate the most, actually playing the game.
