I’m not asking for a fix, but I am asking for a “why.”
Level Restrictions
Profession restrictions
Weapon restrictions
Holiday restrictions
This wasn’t a thing about 4 years ago. Now if I want my paladin to be able to wear a deep dive helmet, I need to level up engineering a second time on this character, just to wear the helmet.
Again, the question is: Why? What is the reason behind this? It doesn’t affect gameplay, so it can’t be for balance issues. So why?
This was always a thing, it just used to be “have to be high enough level to equip/obtain it,” then was changed to “have to reach the expansion’s level range.” This is changing again to “anything pre-Shadowlands is usable at level 10” so you’ve basically already won this one.
Basically only applies to engineering-made items, which honestly doesn’t bother me as far as the goggles are concerned, since they’re heavily engineer-themed anyway. Agree on the helmet though.
Maybe someday. I’d imagine Blizz still has that “we want the class/spec to be identifiable at a glance” thing going, despite there being dozens of ways to make a character of nearly any class look completely identical to a character of another class.
This one absolutely needs to be dumpstered though. No reason I can’t wear a slightly different hat from the standard sun hats year-round.
There are several goggle mogs you can obtain from various sources which are not tied to engineering, so its hardly exclusive anymore.
Also given that nearly all of the old/lower level engineering goggles are cloth, it’s a double restriction. You have to be both a cloth-wearing class and an engineer to use most of them, making them worthless for everyone else.
Aside from the goggles there is virtually no glasses in this game you can wear, so having a good chunk of them tied behind two layers of requirements is ridiculous. Add some glasses or lift the restriction on engineering goggles.
Yeah there’s a few that don’t look like they have anything to do with a holiday. Oh a flower crown. Nope, it’s for spring only. What? Yet I can mog Rhok’delar bow/staff with flowers on it, but the crown with some flowers is for spring?? My druid was sad that day.
Blizzard is loosening the restrictions a bit. In SL I’ll be able to transmog any wand, dagger or sword into any other wand, dagger or sword. To clarify, I’ll be able to mix and match my one-handers.
The worst transmog restriction crime are the original mag’har ‘heritage armors’. The ones you can get for iron scraps at the garrison. How is warsong mail? The clan has produced some of the mightiest warriors any concept of the horde has known, but orc warriors cannot transmog it. The thunderspear outfit cannot be transmogged by hunters, the shadowmoon outfit cannot be used by shamans. I have a black rock orc that cannot wear the black rock outfit because it is plate. None of these outfits should be tied to an armor type. They should be opened up so mag’har of all types can represent their clan with more variety than the 3 recolors of the same heritage armor
Add to that list the ability to hide pants. If they don’t want to go with full on hiding of pants, at least allow us to hide them if we’re using robes with cutouts .
And yes, the holiday restriction needs to go. I would love to use the black tuxedo pants on a few as they are actually black, no stitching to really be seen and no poufs half way down the leg. There are other pieces I would use as well, especially the rose in your hair for my void elf.
Oh, the basic ones for sure, but the goggles from BC onward would seem a little, I don’t know, off on non-engineers. IMO, every goggle appearance should be “Cosmetic,” and I’d love to see 'em all usable by everyone, but I’m completely fine with the “advanced” ones keeping a “Requires Engineering” tag.
Also, this 100%. I’d love to see the bonus Draenor Clan, Tanaan, and Argus cosmetic sets made fully cosmetic. I’d even go so far as to say “trophy” appearances like Lei Shen’s crown, Ragnaros’ crown and shoulders, and Tusks should be in the “usable by everyone” pool.
Yeah those are the later ones they added which were like the epic crafted gear for engineers. They come in all armor types so there will always be a few for everyone. And yeah I agree they look unique and sci-fi enough to remain engineer exclusive.
It’s the vanilla crafted ones I believe that were just different variations of the same model with color swapped lenses. Then you had the flying tiger goggles which many flight masters have on, which look like glasses, but nobody but clothie engineers can use.
