We need to talk about player housing

I think that this is something that we really need to start thinking about and taking seriously, the most frustrating thing is that garrisons proved that WoW has the ability to do player housing much, MUCH better then FF14 can, as in FF14 like all Japanese mmo’s, it’s the person with the most money that gets all the cool stuff, but with phasing technology in wow, wow could do so much more,

Anyway my favorite streamer has also made his arguments in favor of this, it’s just something we need to start seriously thinking about, I mean let’s be honest most people are excited about Dragonflight, but we are still missing the one thing we all really want.

I think it’s a highly requested feature and Blizzard has done themselves a disservice by not having implemented it by now.

If it’s something that takes several expansions or years, it’s something that should have started several years ago by now. I have been hearing of requests for player housing since I started playing in TBC.

It’s a feature that could be continuously improved and iterated on and it would provide a level of replayability that a lot of current content just doesn’t have.

It’s a feature that could EASILY improve the quality of other aspects of the game.

Again: They do themselves a major disservice by just not doing this.

I personally do not buy their excuse of “This will cost a raid tier.” It will only cost a raid tier because YOU CHOSE TO MAKE IT THAT WAY.

That’s all.

No, we really don’t. I’m tired of saying ‘yes player housing would be nice’ and seeing the same other posts being echoed from every other housing thread.

Yeah I’d like to see housing myself but they already (just recently) said they would probably need several expansions worth of time to develop it.

Is that not enough to tell people it is on their radar at this point?

You know how you get in arguments with people on the forums thinking you can change their mind? Yeah…never gonna happen with a lot of people. You have the game director telling you how resource intensive player housing implementation is and you have people saying, “nah, he’s wrong and doesn’t know what he’s talking about”

Yes, because Ion has a track record of open honesty with the community.

You just need have some coding experience to know he’s not lying and that it would be a massive project.

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but player housing has zero appeal to me.
All I can think of are Garrisons, and how much I absolutely DESPISED them.

The only time player housing is interesting, is when it’s done like it was in Archeage, where the entire game revolves around property ownership and transport of trade. (ex: player housing holds a real space in the open world that anyone can come see.)

I don’t really want the world to be empty because people are all sitting inside their e-house. It’s just gonna be instance of instance craft again.

As much as you joke, the interview he had with Hazel he actually gave a straight answer for once about housing.

But there is a theory that I agree with Taliesin on; that the profession changes might be a (very small) step in the direction of housing considering how it could be implemented for it.

I for one would want housing but ONLY if they do work on it through time. Since they wanna work on more evergreen content shown with the talent trees and the stepping away from borrowed power, I think they might start this route at some point.

Ion and various other devs have even said the team is REALLY into the idea but do need to work on it through multiple (minimum of two) expansions to fully grasp it.

Thing that bothers me is how so many people asked for it and we got some rehash on flying that no one asked for instead…

I kind of agree. I’m excited for Dragon Riding, and I think that they should and do have the freedom to implement whatever they want in the game. I just think for all this “listening” they are doing, they could still be doing better.

I feel like at this current point in time, with all the controversy flying around them, and the fact that they are actively trying to rebuild their reputation and make changes for the better, this is a missed opportunity.

Player housing would be a solid win for them. An EZ win.

I just feel like Blizz isn’t going to dump all that time and energy into implemented a system that doesn’t really offer much at the end of the day.

Yeah it’d be cool to have a house or something that I can customize but is player housing something that’s going to bring players into the game and keep them subbed?

Idk, it just seems like a system that’d be cool if it was there but not something that’s super engaging or that provides a lot of staying power for the majority of the community. Blizz probably thinks the investment in it won’t pay off.

If it’s true that it would take several expansions to get it implemented, then Player Housing is never going to happen.

boy oh boy, I’d love to have an instanced shard of the same house that doesn’t provide any player power and only has a few cosmetic choices in it and you can’t even choose where you want to place it, But you can go see other peoples houses the same way you see other garrisons.

Or maybe I’d like just vast plains filled with rows of soulless copy pasted houses that provide the exact bonuses as the last version, but now 2/3rds of the world is devoted to player housing, but people can fly over my house and whats inside will spawn and if they decide to(they won’t, there are thousands of houses that look pretty much the same right next to yours) they will be able to see the furniture in the pre picked positions they gave us(wowwwwwwwwwwww so cool and immersive im glad they wasted a raid tier on this)

I think that’s BS (pardon the language),

They made garrisons in one expansion, and all player housing is, is garrisons on Azeroth with a few extra buildings for different races etc

Accolonn is right here, this REALLY needs to be sent to Ion and the rest of them.

It absolutely would, yes.

I mean in large numbers. Some players maybe but I just don’t see the masses staying subbed to sit in their house. Of course that all depends on how well they implement it I guess. It’s possible it could bring a new demographic of players that just really love that type of thing but who knows.

It’s never been about “sitting in the house”. It’s about designing it, getting new cosmetics for it, working on crafting, etc.

The reason garrisons failed is because they kept players IN their garrisons, but with REAL player housing, it means you go OUT into the world to get your furniture for your house and stuff like that, the mining nodes aren’t meant to be right under your house in a phased space like they were in garrisons.

Does that make sense?
