We need to go back to Draenor

We should go back to Draenor. That glorious, savage world that was ended by a bad gameplay decision.

Yes it got dunked on and seen as the ‘worst expansion’ (it is personally the reason I quit until last year and then this last month) but it really isn’t. It’s a case of one wrong gameplay mechanic, garrison’s, hijacking what was otherwise a really great and heavily detailed setting. Draenor had so much personality, that Conan, pulp sword and sorcery fantasy that story and zone wise, I never lost interest in what was going on.

Gorgron and Arak were especially incredible places to quest in, and Frostfire was really important lore wise. Nagrand was okay, seeing it in one piece without the floating islands was nice but the ogres really took the prize in that zone.

There were zone missteps, like Talador and Tanaan, but overall the bones and most of the meat of Warlords was exceptional. Garrisons ruined it.

And then we get the time travel wonkiness where we go into its future and recruit all the Mag’Har from being mindwiped. I think that, given how well established Draenor is…If we cannot have our timeskip and Azeroth update, we should return to Draenor and see it either in the Lightforged future and make them the primary antagonists (or at least appear to be) and let us see and explore a world that was ended all because the developers floundered with a gameplay mechanic that ate everything else.

Could be a way to finally get Ogres into the game, Arrakoa, Saberons…I mean c’mon Blizz.

We could start out as Horde fighting off the Lightforged, the Alliance supporting them because “They fight for the Light and thus are good” while conveniently overlooking the atrocities committed by the faction. Eventually we could actually go toe to toe with the Void Lords and all of that, since we haven’t had an expansion that focuses on the Void yet. Be a great way to expand upon the Void Elves. Maybe have the Ogres starting to be manipulated and transformed by the Void Lords. Or the Consortium doing something. They could even let us try to avert the bad timeline we pull the allied races from. Heck, when Shadowlands ends prematurely (this many delays, problems and player dissatisfaction means it most likely will) have us get spit out back on Draenor instead of just immediately going home to Aeroth.

Or just make it the ‘prime Draenor’ by pulling it out of it’s doomed timestream and placed into the prime timeline where Outland is now (and Outland can be a moon or something). Because if Argus can warp into close proximity to Azeroth from across the universe, so can Draenor.

I’m a big proponent of forcing players out of the cities and back into the world, so trapping everyone on Draenor and then making us work to get home, I think I’d be a big fan. They have to engage the players again, so removing the safety net of old content and sitting in cities could be entertaining and reinvigorating.

Heck, the world is there, so depending on where they drop us in the timeline…Or maybe just allowing g us the chance to overwrite the bad ending for the Mag’Har, they would have to do much in the way of building new zones. They’d just need to do some updating, which would allow them to add in Faralon and the ogre continent.

Just no more garrisons.

Just saying, yeah, hindsight is 20/20 compared to the…nothing we have right now, but Warlords of Draenor got a bad rap, and Draenor itself is a world that deserves to live. Blizz never will unless they admit that Shadowlands was a massive step in the wrong direction and publicly apologize again, which they won’t, but I want more of that fun atmosphere and great aesthetic.

Just felt like ranting about this. Shadowlands just has me so frustrated with how unfulfilling it is on almost every level and I miss how good Draenor was as a setting.

WoD was grounded so Legion could fly.

Once you got Pathfinder, anyway.

As a WoD superfan I approve this message. Have Draenor “destroyed” by the Light was, imo, an incredibly shortsighted age dumb writing decision. An entire world with so much storytelling possibilities, a place that was so incredibly unique, was just flushed down the toilet to illustrate the Light can be bad too. What an absolute friggin waste.

Slams fists on desk.

WARLORDS OF DRAENOR WAS THE COOLEST AND I WANT TO GO BACK TO TO AVENGE GRANDPA GROM.

PLEASE?

As someone who’s always maintained WoD was the worst WoW expansion (at least until Shadowlands which I hate more) I’ve got to say it wasn’t all bad.

The new models were amazing. The quest experience was amazing. The additional/extended lore on Draenei and Orc culture was especially cool.

What sucked was the undelivered promises (especially re-garrisons as player housing. They really weren’t) and the lack of content AFTER the quest experience.

6.0 dailies were like… one garrison daily. And story that unlocked super easily, just by the passage of time. There was legit not much to do other than raid.

6.1 was literally new belf models, a selfie cam, and a little bit of additional legendary story.

6.2… Tanaan was alright to play. But storywise most of the story you unlocked was a bunch of disconnected raid boss previews, which were kind of lame, not gonna lie. Then we got Draenei standing next to Grom Hellscream, who friggen slaughtered them en masse, cheering as he yells “Draenor is free!” which to me just seemed… in poor taste.

So WoD wasn’t all bad. It was just lacking after the initial drop.

the story was poison

the lore it introduced for orcs was painful

we don’t need to go back

Here I thought we were talking about Outland, the critically underused space that featured basically everything WoD repackaged and sold a decade later that had basically all the same post-expansion potential that was so underealized they just re sold it as the expansion in question and repeated most of the same mistakes.

Silly me.

Outland is ruined garbage. Always has been. I’d rather see it disappear entirely but because I know so many people are caught up about it with nostalgia I suggested it be made a moon of Draenor or something.

Seriously, hated TBC. It was the beta for World of Warcraft. Vanilla was the Alpha. Wrath was, in my opinion, where the game ACTUALLY released in a highly finished state.

Who do you think lives in our garrison now

I like to think Lantresor survived his encounter with Yrel and made it back to the mines

I wouldn’t mind going to Draenor if there were actual reason to. I’d rather not get the “Let’s fight the Light. It’s evil too.” expansion and we already got an invasion from there(a couple times if you count the early stuff lol). Instead if we go to Draenor again I’d want it to be Yrel and gang reaching out to Alliance and maybe some other group reaching out to Horde. The conflict would be over land, resources, and such. Something that puts tensions on the Alliance and Horde peace but both parties are acting in good faith in helping who they are helping and neither of them are doing war crimes for bro fist moments.

I think something to do with the Void would be the route to go. We haven’t seen anything regarding the Void in a very long time and most of that information is pretty outdated. Fighting the Light is pretty cliche, but I don’t think they’d invade Azeroth directly, again I think a great way to get us there and make us involved in that conflict would be to have Shadowlands end with up getting dumped out into that version of Draenor.

After all, the Shadowlands connect to all worlds, right? I mean personally I’d just rather forget this entire expansion and it’s dumb lore and instead have it never existed, but…With a time skip and dumping us out into the wrong world BEFORE the bad ending could give us a reason to care. Maybe it’s only right after the Naa’ru show up in Outland and start brainwashing people and we’re able to head that off, thus averting Draenor getting Light-nuked.

And then without the Lightforged crusading around and the Naa’ru enslaving everything, the Ogres on the Ogre continent start messing around and summoning the Void Lords in exchange for power, and because we need to get back to Azeroth, we need to fight the Void Lords and manipulate time and space because there’s no more Dark Portal and all the other portals have collapsed from no one using them.

And then we discover that we can pull Draenor entirely into the Prime universe, and that’s what happens at the end of the expansion (or heck, I’ll settle for just a massive content patch). Outland is shifted into Draenor’s orbit as a new moon for all the people that want to keep it, we finally get back to Azeroth…The discover that ‘oops, we were in the Shadowlands for five years’ and things have changed, the factions have shifted and the world is FINALLY repaired from all the Cata damage.

Then the expansion after that could be something of a soft reset. The time skip has happened, things have changed and Azeroth and everyone on it has actually had a chance to heal and regrow from the millenia of warfare.

I like to run my alts threw WoD Chromie Time, not only is the experience good but it’s generally a fun expansion if you don’t think too much about the main story. BfA is like this too, enjoying the scenery, doing random quests like helping undead skeleton pirates or turtles pledge themselves to a tiger god or fox people raiding a tomb and stopping a troll lich.

Anyway WoD did give us the worst orc lore, it did give us some Draenei lore and then immediately was like haha this expansion is about orcs and the garrisons are kinda bad and I still hate Tanaan Jungle to this day.

Anyway I go back sometimes to work on Nat fishing rep, on my Alliance character because the garrison is prettier and you get those funny hats from fishing in your garrisons.

Also random but in Talador some of the orc anvils are replaced by night fae anvils and the mail box outside Khadjar’s tower is the night fae mailbox.

Not sure if it’s some sorta WoW secret or a bug

That’d be a simple recycling of assets for Shadowlands.
