I don’t know what generation you are. I’m in my mid-40s. I just want to relax and have a night of heroics. Which is what I also wanted in my late 20s early 30s in original Wrath…so I guess I haven’t changed.
The thing is my playstyle isn’t supported by Retail, which the max level dungeon experience is the never ending mythic fake progression, which obviously doesn’t use RDF.
You can always play Classic Era. What about the people who thoroughly loved the second half of Wrath? Specifically the dungeon content? Just unsubscribe? In three versions of the game they can’t get that casual dungeon endgame content?
I don’t understand that. The point of a Classic server should be to offer something that no longer exists. Instead they’ve abandoned that philosophy and are just creating a Retail Lite dungeon experience. For whom? No one.
And that’s just speaking of endgame. The leveling aspect is even more clear cut: no RDF means people pretty much don’t do dungeons. And what a waste of content that is.
I mean what you said about RDF applies to chat or LFG pugging now(personally my experiences in RDF have been fine).
Sure if you are doing something like using a discord you might have a different experience. But then RDF would not prevent you from using that discord or friends list or guild either.
I think, with a good guild, you can get the same experience in Wrath without RDF. But all along my argument hasn’t been that they should not have RDF just that the argument that it being optional isn’t a valid reason for either including or excluding it from Classic.
As for age, well, lets just say I started playing when WoW was released and I was in my mid 50’s. My first gaming experience was playing Pong in a Bar when I was still in the Army.
I stopped raiding in retail a few expansions back and, while I still play retail occasionally, I haven’t even done a retail dungeon or raid in over a year. Seems to be too much rush and a lot of toxicity. Much more than in the Classic releases.
It’s not a fallacy, though. RDF doesn’t affect your weapons or power or anything about your character at all. RDF is a QOL feature that doesn’t affect your DPS, HPS, gear, or even the dungeon run itself. You can run dungeons with RDF in the game WITHOUT using RDF.
I knew alot of people that joined end of wraith/beg of cat. Its because RDF was in the game and it was now accessible to everyone. You didnt HAVE to have a guild to do dungeons and raids anymore. I think RDF for raiding is a bad idea, but getting players into dungeons is what this game is about imo. Its where classes really shine and you can open up without having to worry about getting overwhelmed by mobs or having to waste time healing. A big appeal was how easy it was to get gear(taken from the mouth of a newbie that joined in cat).
It’s almost like there’s an authentic system that was added back during Wrath that directly addresses that issue. A system people have been asking for that was in Wrath.
Instead they got a cobjob Retail system that doesn’t address any of the dungeon problems. And your only reply is, “Tough. Guess you rolled on the wrong server.”
By the way, even in high pop servers the situation is bad. For leveling especially. And the thing with endgame dungeons is you look at it as…”Well, just do my one daily and move on.” Whereas half of Wrath the dungeon experience wasn’t just doing your one daily. It was potentially hours and hours and hours of heroics. That’s gone now. And that might not appeal to you, but to many casuals that was the game. So Blizz has effectively eliminated a playstyle for certain types of players.
And replacing it with what? Do your one Mythic dungeon a day instead. That’s still the same experience, expect with the Retail e-sport mindset that dungeons have to scale harder and progression is diluted. And, again, for people who spent half of Wrath as Heroics being their endgame…they can just gtfo. This is a very Retail approach of eliminating choice and streamlining the experience so everyone plays the same way.
There are a lot of people who didn’t “choose” a low pop server. Some players have been on their server since classic launched. I don’t have to tell you that full servers can and have gone to low pop. And it’s not like they can transfer, spending their own money btw, to servers like Bene or Grobb. Even on full, locked servers people are having a hard time finding groups for low level dungeons. On some servers it’s actually impossible.
What is the point of making it incredibly hard or impossible for these players to find groups?
Now lets say you are ordering a happy meal and say no onions, and that automatically means they remove the toy in this example. No onions=no toy. Kind of defeats the purpose of the happy meal doesnt it? Do you still order no onions when you are odering the happy meal because you want the toy as well? Its optional right? Just that not having onions means you dont get the toy as well.
Have you seen how quick classic was pushed content wise? No? Okay here’s a tidbit and lore fact for you, phase 1 2 3 and 69 were pushed out months before their intended dates, do you want to know why?
PLAYERS: BLIZZARD WERE PVP?
BLIZZARD: HERE PVP GIVES HONOR
PLAYERS: BLIZZARD WHERE CONTENT? WE BORED!
BLIZZARD: HERE CONTENT PUSHES CONTENT OUT EARLY
PLAYERS: WE DID CONTENT WHERE TBC?
BLIZZARD: HERE TBC!
RINSE REPEAT
