except for this toon which is a bank toon and only high level bank toon, I have always used a low level bank toon since vanilla. I found playing over time that people like to message toons posting on the AH at times so this makes it so I dont have to deal with random messages bugging me about whatever since they just log in for a short time to handle AH/mail. It also makes it more convenient to have a toon planted that doesn’t have to port to the AH. All my toons on a server mail everything to the banker/AH toon.
As for why do I need more, the answer is I don’t. I don’t need to play wow either. I would like more. its how i like to do things. I could play wow with only 1 character, but that’s not how i want to play the game. more toons, more gold, more chances at mounts with holiday events (just got Love Rocket this year) and more chances at mounts from old world bosses. I collect mounts so yeah thats why I have a lot of toons.
Ya, either way before anything can happen people need to prove they have an attachment in some meaningful way to 50 characters. Development named this as activity, but if a player could explain it otherwise I’m sure that would be sufficient.
I do believe it would have to be something more than “I played this character a while ago” though.
Either way, I would be in favor of seeing the cap raised, but I still do not believe anyone actively uses or has any use for 50 unique characters.
It seems the development agrees, and this statement was issued only a few months ago, so this was with Allied Races in mind.
That’s enough of that for me though. I guess the original commentors have moved on. I hope they will assemble their evidence and push it forward, because I would love to see a moment like that again. Always fun to see the community rally behind something they think is more important than the broad views of development often touch.
Best of luck everyone! If anyone takes action lemme know! You’ll have my full support!
I can understand this and I have 12 or so bank characters that are under lvl 10, but those would be the first to go if I needed more character slots. Anyone who is playing on the AH really can afford to have more than one account though and really it is so much easier to do that kind of activity on multiple accounts anyway.
I definitely can afford more accounts. its not an issue. I have wow paid off for 15 years. they love me as a customer and I don’t play the AH. I just mail everything toons pick up over to sell off. I’m not an AH flipper. Like i was saying this isnt a need its more a want. I only jumped in here since some are saying they doubt people play that many toons, but I do and I don’t wish to delete any toon that has hit 110 and up to make another. there is no point for what my goals are. I also don’t want to get rid of AH toons because of reasons I mentioned previously. I don’t care if they add to account cap. Not something i will lose sleep over. Just saying in my opinion I would like to see a 75 cap, but would be happy with a smaller increase to like 60 toons. If it never happens then oh well
You can make up whatever rationalization you wish to support your claims. I’m going by his playstyle, his comments in the past, and the decisions he has made.
Ion did actually start a thread during Legion asking people who play alts how and why they play alts, because Blizzard doesn’t understand those things and they needed our help to understand. That thread grew long with helpful replies, but it was ignored.
There is no non-human entity called “Blizzard” that makes decisions independent of the humans that work there and hold positions of responsibility. Like Ion does, as game director.
You are a person who does not understand how and why people play alts. I don’t understand how you can even make such a claim. I don’t know anyone who plays alts that doesn’t know their names. Perhaps you should break out of your self-imposed restrictions and actually talk to some people who enjoy playing alts, instead of feeling the need to put words in their mouths.
… I gave you a real example that just happened this last week by from someone who loved to level up characters. I don’t know all my character’s names because I just don’t play them all.
So guess what I have talked to people who make alts. I have 20 at 110 and over myself.
He doesn’t make all the decisions nor come up with all the new ideas. It’s a team and group effort.
For you to say things like, “Ion doesn’t understand nor does he want to know” is a highly inflammatory troll attempt. If they don’t care that we have alts they wouldn’t have changed the limit of chars on one realm.
Wanting more than 50 characters for your own personal reasons and being told no does not make the video game some evil manipulative entity controlling your life.
Get a grip. You get 50 chars that most players will never play. I have maybe 12 I’ll play - the rest, maybe 15 are name place holders.
You can only play one at a time…unless you’re a boxer. Are you?
I don’t even understand what you think you mean. What exactly does it mean to you to “actively play 50 characters”? What is “not actively playing” but playing in some other manner you don’t like?
You are the one making the bluff here, attempting to challenge us to meet some unstated requirements that you already have told us cannot possibly be fulfilled.
What’s it to you if I want to run 30 alts a week through old raids, or farm honor, or camp mount spawns. Why does it bother you so much that you demand from us proof that we play enough and the right sort of content to get your permission to keep them?
Go ahead and run your 50 alts…or 30 actually. If WoW is your life, you’re unemployed/retired/etc. and spend 15 hours everyday in-game, then you can actively play 50 chars. Most of us, pretty sure the majority of the player base do not play this game that way. At least not nowadays.
So besides the actual limitations of the data bloat of all our chars on their servers, time played/just time in the day is a factor in keeping this at 50.
They don’t want people keeling over from overplaying.
Ion started that thread claiming he didn’t understand why or how people play alts.
Everything that happens in the game now has Ion’s signature on it.
You get a grip. I have 2 accounts. I have never once in this thread said I support raising the character limit, yet you feel the need to claim I said that.
Are you opposed to boxers as much as you are opposed to people enjoying playing their alts productively?
Did you really need to make up that claim that I said I wanted more than 50 characters per account? Does that make you feel better to say things like that, even though they’re not true?
Someone actually just walked into the room, looked at your name, and told me about your history being anti-alt. So I guess I’m done here.
They try with the limitations in the game. eg. raid/dungeon limits, only so many WQs up at a time, etc. They know people die or get seriously ill from doing nothing but gaming so they do some gates to prevent players from going overboard.
Why are you so hostile? I could ask you the same thing. Why is so important to you how others spend their time playing the game?
Maybe you made a commitment in wod and Legion not to earn mission gold. I think you’re wrong about assuming that lots of other people were so committed to not using alts that they were willing to forgo that flow of gold.
I met a guy who puts 36 alts a week through raids and pandaria world bosses. Is he playing the game wrong?
Isn’t this what we’re talking about in this thread? That’s the discussion here. Where did you come from? What ARE you talking about then? (Besides ragging on Ion as the reason why we can’t have more than 50 chars.)
Did you take a wrong turn in Albuquerque?
Wait what? Now where have I ever said I’m anti-alt? Or does that person remember something from years ago where he was berated for posting on an alt?
Yeah, you really didn’t belong in this thread, did you?
No, I’m not claiming anything but I’m sure the gaming industry was under a lot of scrutiny and blame for people who actually got sick/died doing marathon sessions. Same thing happens to those who go without sleep for days doing other things but gaming “is bad for you”. It’s just common sense to have some limitations when people can’t control themselves.
Did you? This is the internet. You are not a moderator here.
I’ve been fascinated to read so many players who, like you seem to feel threatened by people who have too many alts. You feel the need to make specious claims or demands.
Someone who has known you in the past and often run into you speaking against alts. Go ahead and make up stuff about this person.
Hey, you didn’t have to come to this thread yourself, did you? But you felt the need to rag on people who play alts.
