The Nerub-ar Palace hunter tier is a step in the right direction finally, but we need to go further.

Completely agree with this. There are very few good looking animal pelts, even fewer animal pelt themed items. It’s a problem for shaman as well
I never understood why hunters even wear mail. It makes far more sense for them to wear the pelts of the things they hunt (aka leather)

I believe this was always a purely functional decision to balance out the armor classes and not create undue competition within the leather-wearing classes for boss drops. Ironically, hunters would still go on to cause all manner of problems with weapon drops, since, as we all know, every weapon is a hunter weapon.

I hear ya. Looking at those upgraded Tier 2 sets for the anniversary, I see that hunter set and wonder what manner of “hunter” dresses like that. No disrespect for anyone who loves that set, but to me cloth and leather armor does seem a better fit for the Warcraft hunter fantasy, at least so far as it is described on Warcraft’s own class page.
I do think, however, that all the cosmetic armor Blizzard has been putting out, and which any class can use, goes a long way toward remedying this situation for anyone who wants that more traditional hunter feel.
Totally agree. My worgen survival hunter uses a play on the lone wolf transmog minus that impossible to drop back. I ended up hiding the helm since it sits wierd on a wargon and using the bag that came with the trading post trappers ensamble instead of the back that ive never got to drop.

The set from Sancrum of Domination LFR looks really really good if you swap the gloves and boots for the Uldir H set, and the belt for the Crucible of Storms H mail belt.
Has scales, leather, fur, and bones that way.
