We need mailbox restrictions

I’m getting sick of spam from certain gold selling websites.

I propose the following changes:

  1. Give us the option to block all mail from characters who are not on our friends list, not an alt, and not in our guild

  2. Disable all players less than level 10 on any version of the game from sending mail to any character that is not an alt, on a friends list or not in a guild.

  1. Actually do something about the problem by banning accounts sending the mail, Blizzard you have the reports.

I have been playing since day 1 of WoW… i can count on 1 hand the amount of times i was solicited via mailbox from a gold selling org… across over 40 characters and multiple accounts ( i was a multiboxer once)

the ONLY people i know who get flooded with these solicitations are people who have bought gold from a 3rd party vendor

sooo maybe stop buying gold from websites and you will receive less of these solicitations

I’ve never bought gold so get the heck out with your baseless accusations.

You guys are just always trying to lose raid tiers, it’s sad!

Level 1-9 characters are erased and not registered when deleted, so when you report a level 1 that is deleted after mail sent there is no trace on the character to report.

seems unlikely if you’re receiving that many solicitations that you feel you need to make a thread about it

those vendors sell the names list of people who buy from them so everyone bombards those buyers with ads to get them to buy more

youve done something to get on that list… maybe a playerauctions account or similar

That seems very shortsighted.

What are all the names of all your characters? Do any others have diacritics in them?

I’m noticing my characters with things like é and ö in the name get no mail, I wonder if the bots are programmed with the standard 26 latin letters.

Yeah but without it the database would in theory get extremely congested or something something I’d imagine. I don’t know I’m just a shut-in but some tech person might!

Keep them long enough to check for reports then purge them.

I think in theory by then the account holder has moved on, but none of these trial characters can interact with mail so why is this even an issue?

I do agree with this, I’ve been getting spam mail too and it’s very annoying.

I can block and report all I want, but characters will just be created, deleted, created, deleted, rinse, wash and repeat.

Yes, I would like an option to say who can send me mail and who cannot.

I never bought anything from gold sellers and most of my characters are fresh on some servers that I’m receiving spam from.

It’s also a server size issue.

Never had this issue on a small server like Alexstrazsa, but now its happening to my toons on Bleeding Hollow

Mailboxes are only good for one thing dancing that’s it.

Those… are actually some pretty smart ideas, and not just for gold sellers, no more angry whispers from people you don’t know in PVP or others either. This would also be hard to get around since you’d have to join the same guild or be on someone’s friends list, which unless your GM/officers are just clueless to the situation (more your fault than theirs for you not telling them about it or not being honest with the severity of the situation) would in the majority of situations solve a ton of problems.

If this is true, it’s about the dumbest decision ever made by Blizzard.

When you consider all the level 1 characters created, killed, and flown to the steps in SW, when you couldn’t fly in that zone, to spell out a gold selling website back in the day.

Why would you not monitor and record all characters created for at least some length of time? The very act of creating and deleting many level 1s would be suspicious behavior in this game. Something that could easily be monitored by one of these new AI programs.

Get with the times Blizzard, use the tools at your disposal to clean up the bots, and we will stop screaming about your seemingly uncaring attitude.

They aren’t the only ones getting hit with those in game mails though.
I’ve played since Vanilla and have never went to any rando site to buy gold whatsoever.
But yet , I’m getting hit with them every few months.
Others have commented same before about those in game mail solicitations.
