We need Hard Mode for leveling

The worst part about this game is how mind numbingly easy, and thus boring, leveling up has become.

I don’t care if leveling up a hard mode character takes literally 10 times as long as a regular character would. I’m in it for the experience. In fact I’d happier if it took 100 times as long.

“Just play classic” - No. I’m not interested in Classic. I want to play retail. I know, crazy concept.

“Just turn off xp” - No. I shouldn’t have to forfeit a primary sense of progression because the devs have tuned the leveling experience so far down that it is now not even on the ground, but underground underneath the lowest common denominator of unskilled and new players.

So yeah. Hard mode. Just a box you select during character creation. 6 months to level a new character instead of 3 hours. Mobs don’t fall over after 1 or 2 attacks. There aren’t level 11 twinks in dungeons going at mach 500 speed leaving the rest of the group in the dust.

Do it naked, with fists.

Unfortunately even if you did, the secondary stats are so skewed at low levels, you would still roll over everything.

Harder but faster leveling would be a lot more appealing to most. That’s the main reason normal leveling is so trivially easy, it has to be a compromise between players who want to get to max level all the content is, and players who do nothing but level characters over and over.

So separate them. Regular questing and dungeons can be a little tougher and a little slower. Anyone who wants to powerlevel can do Endless Proving Grounds or something similar, that is much faster but demands they know what they’re doing.

Give new players an xp & power boost for the first 6 months or whatever, they’re gonna go to max level and not blast out alts anyway.

It’s more entertaining when you pay for a bot and then pretend you’re watching someone else play on YouTube.

They would do something absolutely stupid like with Undermine for example, tightly packed high health pool mobs that do no damage but keep you “engaged” so you can’t mount, mine or pick up treasure chests due to being stuck in non-stop combat.

That would slow progression.

If you want that experience, go play classic hardcore! It’s a lot of fun in that way.

Well then you should contact Maximilian at Team Liquid and tell him that you are the answer to all his problems.

A big part of Race for World First is leveling up, doing splits or what ever. If you could level up yourself, faster than the rest of the team, then help the others, that would give Team Liquid a huge boost no other team could overcome.

Open world scaling ruined this. Back then if you wanted a harder experience, you’d go to a new zone with oranges or reds.

That’s why you don’t thrive on leveling in Retail. Endure the snoozefest leveling. Do dungeons while leveling even if it’s not efficient. But to me it’s more efficient as falling asleep doing a snoozequest is a downtime.

Reach max level and enjoy Mythic+ or Raid. Also spank hard that higher Delve at lower gear.

There’s plenty of hard stuffs in Retail.

Bro really? You just made a post about this a couple days ago that is still current.

Eh, only for the first 20 levels. If you do it on a healer toon, with no gear, and no weapons at around level 20 and above, you’ll probably be waiting 2 minutes to bring 1 thing down.

Ah, this is about that Twink topic you made the other day. :joy:

This still exists…

Hint: Turn off Chromie time. With Chromie time off zones still have level ranges.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that they should create a custom hard mode leveling difficulty for you personally.

It would make way more sense to put a difficulty slider in the interface panel so every player could set their difficulty, not be stuck with whatever difficulty you want other people to have to play at.

I doubt that more than a few would use it. I don’t even think you would be able to stick with a hard mode difficulty that took a month of 40 hour weeks to level up. Most of the players who demand changes to content they rarely if ever do would not do it even if those specific changes they want everybody to have to do were implemented.

Not like it was where a strong character could decide to show up in HFP at 55 and start killing stuff. Now everything is scaled 10 to 30 for that zone if you aren’t in Chromie time.

Which is what the OP asked for…

And I would try with a WW monk, they never uss their weapon, /fists of furry

Hard mode consists of two simple words – get nekkid. If the game’s easier with good gear, it stands to reason that it’s much harder with no gear.

I remember back in ye olden days, you could sometimes wander into a neighboring quest zone and get totally stomped by mobs with a higher level.

If you wanted challenge back then you could simply jump ahead a zone, and you’d have your challenge.

I kinda miss it.

Level scaling zones made progression in the open world sucky. Back then when you leveled up enough, it was amazing to start defeating mobs that were 5 or 10 levels higher you.

It felt like you were getting powerful.

Imo, increase the health of mobs in leveling dungeons and increase their auto attack damage.

Increase tank armor but with the intent that will will take more damage from auto attacks. This will give tanks and healers some meaningful challenge in dungeons and if anyone pulls for the tank they will quickly die.

Increase the experience grant by mobs in dungeons so that the experience per hour is the same as it is now so the time it takes level is the same.

they should give us an XP slider in the character panel somewhere that starts at 10% XP gains up thru 100% so those who want to level slower dont have to keep running back to the XP NPC.

I like the XP as it is right now,but i wouldnt mind if all old content world trash was just a tad bit more resistant. maybe just bump it up a level and see how that works.
