We need an untimed dungeon difficulty with relevant rewards

Something I miss about the old-style of WoW was being able to run dungeon difficulties (i.e. heroic dungeons) that were untimed and offered relevant rewards. With the introduction of challenge modes and later M+, we are all funneled into this time-based difficulty in order to receive relevant rewards. Not to mention, heroic dungeons have become a pointless difficulty without any relevant rewards.

I miss being able to just chill out while doing a dungeon, having the freedom to take a bathroom break, and etc.

Yeah. I needed to use the bathroom during a 6 mists earlier. Couldnt because we were on second boss. So i had to hold it and wait.

I miss old wow dungeon runs.

Keys give good rewards even if you don’t time them, though?

If anything they’re too good and easy.

I’m hoping with wow’s e-sports garbage not attracting $$$ponsor$$$ anymore, money goblin kotick will finally pull the plug on this esports focus and let the game return to being an MMO instead of whatever the hell it has become.

You can do heroics, which are untimed. Or M0. Those have relevant rewards.

Who runs heroics anymore? I havent touched a heroic since legion.

Ummm, no they don’t. Heroic dungeons (1) don’t offer valor and (2) drop crappy gear. M0’s drop LFR-quality gear which requires a ton of valor to become usable.

I haven’t done heroic in months. If they brought back the style of boxes like they did in cata (that could have mounts in it) i would go for that.

There’s no challenge then. The timer IS the challenge. You basically want to wait for hero/lust to come up before every boss and get endgame gear for lazy effort.

You do have to time them to progress them though, and I imagine they are probably also referring to past dungeons without arbitrary dungeon mechanics like affixes.

And honestly, whilst I don’t mind doing M+ with friends, I personally enjoyed Cataclysm dungeons more than the current M+ design.

Not anymore it isn’t. It used to be in Legion. Now it’s all of the stupid circus style affixes that are the challenge.

Ain’t nobody got time for that. It’s an argument a lot of people use, but I don’t recall ever experiencing it through any expansion prior to timed dungeons being released.

The only problem is that you can’t upgrade your keys without timing them. If keys didn’t downgrade, it would be a really fun progression path for chill groups - except they would probably only be pushing on fortified weeks.

What would have been hard enough to require such degenerate play? Not even cata heroics were that bad.

news flash you still get rewarded in m+ even if you dont time the dungeon

this.
using a timer as a limiting factor is cheap, uninspired, poor design, not fun etc.

dungeon crawl, not dungeon sprint.

But if you remove timer and wait out the hero you will basically get automatic easy endgame gear no matter what affixes are. The fact that deaths count against timer caused by affixes all adds up to a challenge. With no timer, you could die 100 times and still get endgame gear no matter the affix.

Exactly my point. What could require it though? I’d argue nothing since we see people clear 30s without requiring that same degenerate play.

It certainly isn’t required for the difficulty of a 20+.

Typically non-timed content (ironically) uses time as a major point of difficulty alongside variance. The longer the encounter the more potential for mistakes, the more variance the more players are forced to adapt their gameplay.

Disable all CDs in the dungeon.
