Part of the problem with this game is that you can buy your way to KSM and when the season goes on long enough you can even buy KSH and towards the end of a season, you can even buy top 0.1% title reward… as a DPS.
So those DPS having simply purchased some stats are going to be terrible to group with, I’ve seen it, you all have, you get someone who looks good on paper, 410+ iLVL, 2K+ IO score, but then you get into a group with them and they do zero interrupts and tank level DPS.
There is also a good chance these same people are the ones who pull in dungeons for the tank, we’ve all seen it, they pull, they stand out in the open and fight single mobs instead of grouping them up, they don’t interrupt and that’s the worst, seeing a melee class whacking one mob after pulling 10 enemies and not interrupting to group them up, what’s the point of pulling every enemy in the area and then going single target?
I learned once I started tanking how important it is to ensure mob placement and number of enemies is far more important than anything in this game, if you pull too much or pull the wrong enemies it can result in less DPS, if you pull too many casters, not enough interrupts, no LOS, you end up taking more damage than it’s worth, if you don’t wait for your DPS or healer to be ready, you end up dead.
So how do you get people to see the other side of things? Some DPS certainly won’t tank or heal on their own accord and you can’t buy KSM or KSH as a tank or healer, so hand out rewards to people for tanking and healing so they can see it from another perspective, so they can see why some tanks won’t just pull everything, so they can understand, sometimes the tank needs to wait for CD’s of their own, we are not indestructible, if our major CD’s are down and the next 2 packs of enemies are tough, we are not pulling them both and it’s these kind of things some DPS just cannot understand, especially if they did not earn their stats.
This game certainly does not teach you anything, so reward players for taking it upon themselves to learn.
