so the assumption is that everyone must be on comms?
tbh yeah it does sound like that. they want to go back to groups communicating their way through a run…
at least for this instance. sounds like their testing to see if players want to go back to that style of wow gaming
In a raid? Yes.
There’s Discord and there’s in game voice chat. So… yeah?
Why is it bad to communicate and play as a team?
I don’t think it’s bad to communicate, but I know there’s a decent amount of people that don’t want to join a new discord server for every pug they join just to run a dungeon or raid.
In my experience, if you’re pugging something and joining discord is required, there are people that will leave instead. Also it can be a bit of a hassle or annoyance. It’s not difficult with an invite code, but it’s extra steps to do for something that you might bail on if the group clearly isn’t good enough.
If people are pugging, they have the choice to use the in game voice chat.
But this type of content, to me, is never geared towards pugs. It’s geared towards organized groups.
There are also Discords for organizing groups for this type of stuff and some people are already part of those, as well.
True. I’ve never tried the in game voice chat, so I’m unsure how well it works. Discord does have some nice audio features like filtering and what not, but WoW’s might as well?
Thinking about it, I don’t know if I’ve ever encountered or grouped with anyone who has used the in game voice chat. But people could discuss it and turn it on beforehand I suppose.
This sounds to me like Blizz trying to encourage people to use it and work together better. We’ll see how well that works out, though.
The Ctrl, C, and V keys on Blizzards keyboards must be completely worn out.
No, communication with your teammates isn’t a bad thing per se.
Though this line of thinking from Blizzard’s end in the interview has me concerned for accessibility reasons.
Previously, the likes of the Mekkatorque encounters and the rune boss in Tazavesh were criticized for over-reliance on addons/weakauras to get through, (coincidentally both were mentioned in the interview) but that was only part of it. These types of encounters are absolutely terrible not just for pugs, but also for even the most organized of deaf players that can’t make good use of the convenience that is voice chat for team communication. They relied a lot on WAs/addons to get through those.
Now not only is Blizzard putting the same addons/WAs on the chopping block, they’re also going to regress on accessible encounter design by putting out half baked solutions to design issues?
Color me very skeptical of Blizzard right now.
I love the idea of a megadungeon tuned to +10 and automatically hardmode. That’s the exact sort of endgame experience a lot of people who prefer smaller groups but hate M+ timers want.
Something that feels the way old school BRD or UBRS felt. A grueling adventure, but one you can plan out and handle in your own time.
Would be cool but with the self interested behavior in this game, good luck trying to get many of them to even play FOR the team let alone bother themselves communicating.
So when they say hardmode is automatically a +10 this is after the squish which originally was +20 right?
If it’s for the hard mode then yes, makes sense to me. It’s a cooperative game that also has built in voice comms.
Will it be impossibl without choice? I doubt it.
A bit like Dawn of the infinite hard mode or Mechagon hard mode that type of content is like a small raid. This is an option as there will only be 1 dungeon like that and like dawn of the infinite in s4 of DF if it’s not your cup of tea there will be other options.
I’m hoping some of the loot you can get there like in dawn of the infinite hardmode in S4 of DF can be mythic so people have a reason to do it outside of first weeks.
I did once in Legion.
Great. So everyone can now hear me cussing and fussing… And I am a frequent f-bomber. Plus, I get overstimmed by talking to begin with, let alone superfluous chatting & jokes. It just shuts me down, literally.
They really need to improve the in-game voice chat. Some games even have full discord integration. I don’t mind getting in coms but I’m at my discord server limit
I hope they add new rewards rather than the same stuff from back in SL.
Out of curiosity, how many servers would that be? Didn’t even know there was a limit.
