We could use a Reverse Cataclysm

It’s been 11 years since the cataclysm and most of the world is still on fire.

It took 6 years of WoW for them to decide on a World Redesign originally. I’d say we are well overdue.

I think that a lot of zones could return to a “Pseduo Classic” state. Loch Modan could have the damn rebuilt and refill the lake. But have entirely new quests.
The barrens could be restored.
Badlands comes to mind as well.

Other zones like Thousand needles can’t really be “restored” but they could have their quests updated and overhauled.

I think this would fit an Expansion where we focus on Azeroth instead of some new dimension. Going to the Undermine seems like a good setting for an expansions strictly about Azeroth.

this is a really good idea.

also shared leveling zones in classic areas once new players finish the the starter island.

Before Cataclysm: we’re not afraid to change everything about the world!
After Cataclysm: we’re afraid to change everything about the world!

Pretty sure we’re doomed to new islands and planets for the rest of the game’s existence. Though I’d love to see some of the damage reversed.

You know how, currently, all players that don’t use chromie time are set to BFA?

If we get a world overhaul, I think players who don’t use chromie time should be set to the eastern kingdoms and Kalimdor.

And if you choose you can timewalk to the cataclysm zones.

The Cataclysm zones are in their own time bubbles

Just like how Dalaran is still in northrend when you teleport there and rhonin is telling people to raise their eyes in the skies even though he’s long dead

That’s like saying we should remove Sylvanas and nathanos in BfA cause ones dead and the other is captured/no longer warchief

Leave them in time bubbles

The only way you’ll get your update is if blizzard makes 10.0 where Azeroth just blows up due to the world soul awakening or something

I know; and some of those zones are my favorites on Azeroth. Azshara comes to mind as a big one.

But nowadays these time bubbles are supposedly unrepresentative of Azeroth.
Imagine the potential!
Imagine a fully realized city of Gadgetzan! Or the Beauty of the Barrens once it’s cleaned up of Overgrowth and Fire! There’s real potential here to show of what Azeroth is supposed to look like when it’s not limited by Graphics from 2004 or set on fire by Deathwing

Chromie sends us back to ancient Kalimdor to stop this whole sequence of events. We win and all evaporate…the end

I like the idea of building/healing up some of the Azeroth zones. I’d also like to go see what state Outland is in. It has been a core part of lore a long time.

I like the idea of returning a lot of them to a similar state they were in Classic, with significant graphical overhauls. And overhauled, modern quest design.

I bet a lot more of it has fallen into the twisting nether… maybe the Aldor and the Scryers have deployed more Draenei motherships for people to refuge on.

I have always enjoyed the Cata changes to all the zones.

Sometimes I think I’m the only one. Which is fine. /rebel

Indeed, the primary two continents being stuck in the Cataclysm timeline is very bad. We need an update now. I want loch mod an back, and the thousand needles salt races!

Clark, when was the last time you rolled a new character? the whole thing with the timelines is actually quite confusing and I played this content before the changes were made.

Yeah, an update needs to sorely be done.

Those changes can still be kept, but I do feel like they need to utilize phasing.

My ideal expansion at this point would be if they did a complete overhaul of the old world like they did for Arathi Highlands and Darkshore, and focus on evolving the narrative of the world itself since cataclysm.

Create new Capitols for Gnomes, Trolls, Night Elves and Forsaken, get very in depth about the problems facing the citizens from zone to zone, update some familiar faces, give us some back story on what’s been going on since we left, maybe throw player housing options on there for different zones, add more RPG elements back to the game, and focus on the slow build of interconnected narratives that result in the baddies that we fight in raids.

Kind of a big ask, I know, at least on the surface…

Such a release would likely take longer than a normal expansion, but imo, if they went back to basics and didn’t squander time with dumb quests referencing Indiana Jones and Rambo every… SINGLE… quest, or trying to achieve a half-baked “broken world” aesthetic, this is actually doable. It took the original Vanilla team what, 4 years to complete the ENTIRE old world, raids, and testing?

Its actually not that crazy of a goal, I think, and from the response that Classic wow got in 2019, and continues to get today… to me this means that despite blizzards hesitation to change the old world, if done responsibly, accurately, and with a sensible timeline, such an update could be one of the most popular expansions ever. A sort of “homecoming” expansion, if you would.

Take us home, Blizz… Please

What we need are a bunch of tinkers to step up and help patch up the world. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s been my frustration with WoW for a long time. We’re constantly saving Azeroth but nothing actually gets better. No old ruins are reclaimed, no old cities are now populated, etc. I think 10.0 would me amazing as a healing expansion. Night Elves actually having new cities rather then everything of theirs in ruins - that kind of thing.

Loch Modan’s dam being broken still has been a sore point for me for a long time - especially since seeing that three-faced dam was one of the first “cool!” impressions I got when originally playing WoW years ago.

You guys don’t know what you are talking about, who cares about the word in which World of Warcraft takes place.

In the next expansion, World of Warcraft: Primordial Lands; we meet the Primordial Ones, the creators of the First Ones, and we venture into the creation of the creators of the universe.

However, we find out they were being manipulated by the Mysterious Ones, whose intentions will remain a mystery until the next expansion.

(btw it seems all those ogres, centaurs, gnolls, cultists, etc, have been afk for 10+ years now, w/e you do please don’t do a troll patch or zone, those are the most boring).

Ill bet youre right. Most of original outland is probably an asteroid field by now.

ALL OF THIS.

They can’t update everything everytime something new happens, otherwise more and more dev time would be used up just to update the zones, whilst in the same time totally confusing anyone arriving late.

This is most likely the reason there haven’t been any more updates tbh.

Incorrect. I absolutely LOVE the cataclysm zones for the most part. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want a world overhaul. I think it’s a good opportunity for chromie time
