We can ally with genocidal demons...but not forgive Arthas?

It doesn’t help when the guy you kill later throws you in literal hell without much of a single thought, before you can have a shot at repentance.

Also Arthas did a questionable thing (stratholme) before getting mind controlled. Did Sylvanas?

If you watch the stuff after and even the stuff during, you’ll notice that it’s not just “one dude”. It’s the entire Imperial ideology. Notice how almost every scene you see with an Imperial officer is them enjoying doing the crap they’re doing.

For Arthas, Strath was justifiable in a lot of regards. If it hadn’t been for Uther (and the other Silver Hand members) and Jaina leaving before it started + all of his loyal soldiers dying to the turned citizens of the town while purging, there would have been witnesses to corroborate what happened and the fact that it was the Legion who was responsible.
And Arthas would have been vindicated, and likely never even done the things he did to become the Lich King in the first place. But sadly that didn’t happen. It was the sad, hard and unfortunately least bad option available at the time.

But the the main reason Arthas was so irredeemable was everything AFTER he chased Mal’ganis to Northrend and claimed Frostmourne. Everything after that was just pure evil desire for power, to kill everything and to take over Azeroth. Unlike most of the scourge (KT and the other Cult of the Damned people being exceptions), Arthas willingly embraced becoming the Lich King and voluntarily performed all of the unnecessarily evil atrocities he was credited with doing as LK.

Probably relevant:

Tichondrius: By killing your own father and delivering this land to the Scourge, you have passed your first test. The Lich King is pleased with your… enthusiasm.
Arthas: I’ve damned everyone and everything I’ve ever loved in his name, and I still feel no remorse. No shame, no pity.
Tichondrius: The runeblade that you carry was forged by the Lich King and empowered to steal souls. Yours was the first one it claimed.
Arthas: Then I’ll make do without one. What is the Lich King’s will?

We do the a quest in Icecrown that is the exact same thing - killing people because they are infected.

All the rest? Arthas was already being driven insane by Mal’Ganis.

His pride, mostly. One must have a degree of humility to ask forgiveness.

That’s probably because Sylvanas isn’t dead, just in exile.

To be fair, wouldn’t that terrify children and violate several public lewdity laws?

Just like rogues in races with hooves like Taurens and Draneis, it is just a whim towards the community in which it can be WHOEVER THEY WANT , as Blizzard wants.

There really are things that do not make sense in lore and its theme, Blizzard forgets that it is in an RPG and not just any MOBA, and it also has to learn that there are customizations that we really need, and they are not there, that is to say: it should learn what JRPGs and Baldur Gate gave to their community.

Yet is still a far more revered character in cinema than anything Disney ever did with Star Wars when they acquired it.

I was all set to forgive him for being led astray but yeah idk… Blizz said otherwise it seems… turned a famous warcraft 3 character to dust by the end of Shadowlands. Are the new people secretly not fond of Warcraft 3 or something as that expansion was a disaster

Never had an opportunity. He was controlled by the Jailer until his soul was made into a tool. Slyvanas was the exact same way until she just randomly snapped out of it.

It’s speculated, due to it being a logistical nightmare to cleanse the entire city that some would’ve fallen through the cracks and, in the time the Silver Hand spent cleansing Strat, the Scourge would’ve quickly migrated to other settlements to plague their food and water as well.

It was what needed to be done. It was downright evil, but had Arthas not done that, it’s pretty easy to assume the Scourge would’ve won way faster and much more likely that the Burning Legion would’ve won the Third War because Arthas never would’ve been able to go to Northrend to claim Frostmourne.

In this Bronze Dragonflight essay, I will explain…

Edit: Also, to properly explain why the Burning Legion would’ve won, if it wasn’t for Arthas being ensnared by the Lich King, Ner’zhul, OG Lich King, wouldn’t have been able to break his own bonds to the Legion, therefore making the Scourge a permanent Legion asset.

Or… the Jailer would’ve won, I guess… Dangit, Shadowlands…

Looking over the lore, it really looks like Arthas’ soul was in Frostmourne the entire time. He was also being manipulated through suggestion. When you have no soul, and thus no capacity for morals, you will pretty much do anything no matter how evil.

I contend he is not guilty by reason of insanity.

He is guilty.

Guilty of not looking good in a bustier.

and guiilty of not being christie golden’s husbando, that be Anduin. If she liked him and not anduin, we’d be in a different spot lol.

The king who hasn’t come to work for years since not feeling well. Pretty sure more than a few military of the alliance have raging cases of PTSD. Yet they still stand their post.

They are. I have zero sympathy for the “innocents” that were blown up.

Think of it this way. The guy that repairs the fence during a certain event that happened in WW2. He looks into the eyes of the people he’s assisting in keeping contained so they can be killed. Is he the guy giving the orders? No. Is he the guy “bushing the button”, so to speak? No. But he knows what’s going on and what will happen to them and decides to do his job anyways.

That’s why, in America, someone who’s standing next to someone committing first degree murder also gets charged with first degree murder even though they didn’t pull the trigger. You can’t participate, assist then not report it and get off Scott free.

So yeah the people working on the second Deathstar had ample warning what that thing does to planets and decided that would be a great place to work so fudge ‘em. They deserved to die and Luke and Lando are still heroes.

He raised Sylvanas which lead to her destroying the Horde turning them into sniveling, sycophantic, honor-free cowards quaking at her feet, and who did nothing even after she told them they were, “nothing.”

That and her genocide of Teldrassil, and the greater Undercity area, are all on Arthas.

Imperial propaganda was very advanced. Most of the imperials believed that the Death Star was a mining laser, and that Palpatine sacrificed himself to keep the rebellion from using it to blow up more planets like they did Alderaan.

Or in the case of the second, sometimes it’s spun that Palpatine attacked rebels who built their own station. And before that, rebels had taken over the first one and blown up Alderan that way.
