OK so I had a feeling this was going to happen. Again what i am about to say is for those like myself that rather not dungeon/raid all the above pve wise, I do tons of research about these things because I make videos sharing what i learn.
But now the game is live and now what I seen last night really bummed me out. I did some Bgs and after the match I would do a armory search of some players that did good damage and heals. most are already 177 ilvl … plus with some Ilvl 180 gear from mythics.
I did try to get a head start by doing some BGs while leveling to get some honor to upgrade my gear via the pvp vendor once 60. Which got me to ilvl 154 and then last night got me to 158 If i remember right. I felt I would be decently geared until I looked up other players, which made my ilvl look like I am wearing rags basically.
I decided to try some heroics which i did not enjoy and did get a 177 ilvl upgrade, which is close to 20 ilvls above my other pvp gear, and was thinking for pvp alone there is noway in heck would we ever catch up, seeing there is a time gate to upgrading to ilvl 197 pvp due to renown currency which we can only get a few per week. imagine if pvers had to wait, this game would have like 1k subs.
I know this topic is nothing new lately with pvp in wow since legions. But I didn’t expect it to be this bad, and so quickly noticeable, I wouldn’t have a issue with this if pve gear was not as good in pvp events like we seen through out the game from TBC - Wod… even then raid gear was still the highest but not in pvp so i didn’t care, plus they did not scale 30 ilvls over pvp gear… even when the season opens with conquest and raids… more players will be able to clear the raids for gear but not many pvpers will achieve a 2400 rating to be equal gear wise.
Versatility is a joke, of a so called pvp stat, seeing 40% of the drops in Pve has versatility… there was noway back in the days that someone could get resilience stat gear in Pve, which was a true pvp stat that worked well. Why would we want to put hours into a pvp system like this, when in one night of running Mythics those players will then own in PvP also. Talk about the best of both worlds if you love Pve. Which I don’t and was never forced to until Legions hit and now… its still the same big mess, easy fix bring back dedicated pvp gear with a great stat.

You do know you can upgrade that 158 right? Just asking since you mentioned heroic yet bg gear can match that and usually is superior due to the verse.
Yeah m0 is better but once arena releases you’ll be able to farm better gear from there.
Now if you’re trying to act like all pvpers are only random bgers that’s another story.

Which makes it even weirder that he is complaining since he can currently upgrade the PvP gear to be at least equivalent to heroic dungeon gear. It’s not even a big grind for anyone who supposedly likes doing random BGs. I upgraded several pieces to 171 on my druid after only a handful of BGs (some of which were bonus from first win of the day).

Yeah the renown 7 is to bring it to 184 aka m0. Honestly plan on capping honor then just upgrading next week. Then start season even with pve to grind ladder.
Now how much conquest cap is going to be will really decide how good or bad pvp gearing is… if we can only get 1 or 2 pieces it obviously can’t compete with spamming m+.

all this talk about ilevels. have you even looked at the actual stat difference? stamina on bg gear compared to raid gear is what… like 10 stamina? sooooo add that up for every slot thats…

Not a SINGLE spec in the game wants vers. They want haste/crit/master. Vers is absolutely worthless as a stat, so 40% bonus is 40% of nothing. The fact that they still haven’t even put out a PSA saying classes are going to be hotfixed, the pvp gear is under assessment, etc. proves they are still the same cash grabby scum developers they have been for the last few garbage expansions.

A lot of specs want vers. My own spec specifically wants vers/mast. Haste and crit are very weak for sub rogue pvp.
What needs to be assessed about PvP gear?
Yikes, are you one of those people who think everything blizz does is to encourage token sales to pay for PvE carries?

vers is a crutch. make a max crit glass cannon set and end this charade.

I do have the legendary recipe for 100% crit for 4 seconds when coming out of stealth. If you thought sub rogues were nasty now, just imagine everything hitting for crits during the entire opener 
I have iLevel 154 Monk as a healer and am getting destroyed. Trying to do the gearing up via PVP. How viable is it (sounds like yes?) and do things get better for me?

Just upgrade your honor gear to 171, same as heroic dungeon. But yes, the system isn’t designed to reward only random BG gameplay. For better or for worse that’s just how it is this xpac. If you want the good gear you will have to do rated, raid, or do m+. Which is pretty fair all things considered. They can’t just give away high ilvl loot for random bgs which is (and I’m sorry for saying this) the normal dungeon/LFR of pvp.
All this being said, you should really just hop into some arena or rated battlegrounds if you don’t already. It’s a ton of fun.
You really can’t just hop into arena with bad gear. You’ll just get demolished. As for rated bgs you either have to start your own group or hope a group takes you with your bad gear and then hope you go up against a group with similar gear. Otherwise it’s the pve route to gear.

For a long time, you have been better off doing both. Hell, basically forever. Even in the heydays of Wotlk, I remember raiding for starter weapons.
Point is, just do some mythics. You might even have fun. I dont know how people only do one aspect of the game as is.
Your not screwed, you just need to dabble a bit and do rated.

I’m actually not opposed to rated PVP, however, I’m just looking around at players in BGs now, and many have some 180+ ilevel gear (last game two people had legendaries). I don’t know how I can keep up with that (and supposedly it’s not possible to right now with PVP?)
I’m thinking this will be the trend even after rated PVP is available.
