We are still in a "What Sword?" era of storytelling in WoW

The sword was briefly mentioned in the cinematic and then quickly forgotten about again. I feel like all the hype at blizzcon about them acknowledging the sword led to absolutely nothing.

The way the blizzcon hype around it made it seem like it would be a primary focus of the expansion.

That plot will definitely be wrapped up by the end of the World Soul saga, Metzen said so. It also gets mentioned on several occasions throughout TWW, notably in regards to Beledar, which reportedly went Void mode for the first time the day Sargeras plunged his sword into Azeroth

Or you could wait? The sword will clearly have some impact in the future, namely figuring out WHY that specific portion of Azeroth was hit.

As it is, there is not much to do with the sword.

We are currently dealing with a crystal that became moody because of said sword.

And we are probably close to finding its target as well.

I don’t believe there was a target. Sargeras stabbed Azeroth in a last-minute desperate move before the Titans detained him. He didn’t have time to pick a target. At that moment the planet was rotated in a position to put Silithus in front of him.

It has been implied that Sargeras did chose it and this wasnt some random attack.

The fact the Chamber of Heart was located below Silithus should be proof of it.

The fact that there is more of Beledar’s kind and that Beledar’s Crystal Fragments in Hallowfall are similar to Azerite(as well as Velen’s claims that Azerite is similar to Naaru) suggests Sargeras was stabbing one of those things.

Of course that also suggests there was 1 of those things in Kul Tiras, 1 in Zandalar, 1 in Kezan and 1 in Darkshore along with the ones in Silithus and Khaz Algar and Sargeras injured all 6 of these Light Crystals with his attack on the one in Silithus causing them to bleed out Arcane Light Magic(Beledar had the fortitude of being Holy Arcane Light rather than just plain Arcane Light although that may be wholly due to the Arathi using it as a Holy symbol with the fanatical Heretics outright worshipping it over the Sacred Flame itself).

I think Azerite is like the world soul in malleability. It is a pure substance that can be turned into light, void and so on. The titans made Beledar light after they found it and it was originally a generic crystal. Same thing they plan for the world soul. This explains also why Sargeras’ attack affected it since we know he was probably trying to mess with the Titan’s plans for the planet.

It never was… the focus is on the sword’s intended target… the Worldsoul of Azeroth. And that is still very much front and center.

Metzen has pretty much nudge-nudge-wink-wink confirmed that The Sword, Sargeras, and Illidan are going to be part of The Last Titan.

I read the topic title as Sword Era and that sounded rad af tbh.
