I’ve been playing wow for so long and about six months ago decided I was completely done with the game. The main reason for this I feel was the constant complaining from the community. Don’t get me wrong many things in BFA upset me, but when I go to watch a stream or YouTube video, or even come on these forums and see nothing but bad things about blizzard and wow it makes things even worse for me. At some point when only the bad things are pointed out that’s all you can really see. I decided to come back to wow a few days ago and I instantly see the community and the devs fighting about anything (this time portal rooms…like what?) and get turned off by the idea of playing blizzard games by some random points people make that paint blizzard to be evil. I’ve spent months telling everyone I know that blizzard activision is a terrible company who ruins your childhood games and for people to never touch their products, but I’ve only recently realized that a majority of that is just things I read or heard from videos so much that it’s made me feel that way even if these things are not even true. Wow isn’t even the only game at this point that I have this problem with. My friends and I spend a large portion of our day at work talking about the new big game coming out and how terrible it’s going to be based on videos we have seen slamming the companies that made them. In the end I’ve realized that I’m the problem, and the lack of content that I can consume related to a game I love that isn’t completely toxic makes it hard for me to form my own opinions. I’m a sheep. You’re a sheep. And really we are killing the game we all love by hate bandwagoning it to the ground.
Blizzard please start your own weekly podcast and start doing more events like E3 etc so we can have more positive things to see about your game rather than just constant negativity. <3 BFA has problems but it isn’t the dumpster fire some with loud voices and big followings make it out to be.

I agree with you. People are a problem; however, the story line still sucks.

You’re half right. But, I would say the Devs did a lot to not only directly damage the game with poor design choices, but also encouraged the endless whining by caving repeatedly to their bad ideas.

Perhaps the community is angry because they have a right to be. Too many awful decisions and self inflicted injuries from a company that should know better.

Community backlash wasn’t nearly has huge during the “”""“glory days”""""". Yea I’ve been hearing that the game has been going downhill since Wrath, but I have never seen a mass exodus and a vitriolic anger like we have seen with reason expansions.

So you just realized that you shouldn’t trust things random people say on the internet?

After taking some time off and coming back with a clear head I feel like in a lot of way the devs didn’t really think the decisions were bad when they made them but unfortunately the things many people dislike are the core of the expansion so it’s almost impossible to undo until the next core system comes out. Which sucks. It sucks because we are unhappy and it sucks because imagine going into work everyday and remembering that the thing you created and loved hurt the expansion and you have to deal with it everyday until the next xpack. I can’t imagine doing any kind of good work in that mindset.

Wasn’t it Albert Einstein who said that?

I’ll say that there are problems with the game but I think the vitriol the players spit does more harm to the game than the current design choices imo.

Negative, Ghost Rider. Socrates said these things.
Well, that, and that it’s somehow become cool to be an edgelord these days and the edgiest thing you can do to be the absolute edgiest is to just hate everything.

The problem is, the decisions aren’t awful to everyone.
There are some things that were regrettable, but people take their own opinion as fact FAR too often when discussing this game.
Not sure why this happens, but even I do it all the time, so we just need to try to suppress that notion, because its not good for any one.
The OP is right to a degree. Our overreacting criticism as a community hurts the game more than anything, because people who were on the fence about things see this over reaction and let it form their opinion for them.
All we should ask is that they actually clearly explain their decisions. They did this today, but before today outside of the AMA Ion did, I don’t feel like any major decision has been described properly since the GCD changes, and that’s not good.
If they explained things properly, then regardless of who likes it and who doesn’t like it, there won’t be this animosity and suggestion that they are incompetent or out of touch.
Hopefully, if they do this more, it will help people understand WHY decisions are made though, and not immediately jump to comments like “they should know better.”

Well since the onset of heirlooms and accelerated leveling. Since the first heirlooms in wintergrasp. But the story started to suck after cataclysm. And the reason i say that is cause deathwing was written into the saga way back. I heard his name mentioned in warcraft 3 (Not FT). May even been before WC3. Mists of Pandaria was where the storyline went totally 100% off the rails and into the fire and to the bottom of the mariana trench.

MOP (in my opinion obv), was still a really great expansion. I like the lore, don’t misunderstand me, but that isn’t what’s gonna keep people around for 2 years. You might make a killer at expansion sells, but that sub number is just gonna drop. I get that a lot of people play the game for the lore, and that’s perfectly fine, but it also isn’t gonna appease people for the expansion drought, especially when it’s your 7th alt going through the stuff already.

I guess we will agree to disagree. Flying and portals were NEVER an issue until Blizzard made them one.
