You can minimize your meanness.
In the Undead land there is a quest with buried humans people assume you must smash… but you can dig them out.
Then I saw entangled farmers at a BfA quest. I tried to free them and they just died though… so I just don’t click them and get my % elsewhere.
Sometimes you do have to be cruel, more so on the horde side for sure, but not enough for me to think of my character as a murder hobo. Head cannon will always vary though, character to character.

(Yes worse than Gallywix and Goblins) So I guess Goblin players get a free pass on that one

I thought us more as hired mercenaries who kill and die for gold.
If we had a choice in allegiance most of us would’ve walked off on our factions.
Our characters are more like genocidal maniacs. We’ll wipe out any ole village, creature den or whatever for 15 gold and some sweaty leftover armor.
Sometimes we’ll even lay siege to entire towns just to rip some fabric swatches off their corpse.
How on God’s green earth did you snag that name

Super lucky and I refuse to change it 
I hope Voidwalker/Voidlord isn’t taken for my Velf warrior.
I make lvl 1 characters sometimes just to hold good names I think of

and this is why I never blamed nathanos for his condescending attitude towards us… we aren’t “heroes” we are mercenary murder hobos who will kill whoever and whatever we are told for a vague promise of reward (that most of us don’t even bother looking at before accepting the quest).
Nathanos was the only character who treated us EXACTLY as we deserved to be treated.

I also do fetch quests for sketchy characters who may or may not be making superweapons.
I like to think of myself as a “Population Control Expert.”

There are several quests in which the quest giver was actually the bad guy who was just taking advantage of our unquestioningly saying yes to every odd request.
Remember Feasel the Muffin Thief in Mac’aree? Aethas Sunreaver had one talking head bubble for world quests through Legion. It was just for Feasel. Feasel stole his muffin and Aethas asked us to steal his life.
