I know a lot of you out there are happy to have classic back, but one of the major and important questions i was asking in retail prior to launch was
“do you think that blizzard will never touch the class balance in classic?”
then i added "definately they will because people will complain about it
I’d like to get a jump start on this topic in the community so we can address some of the major issues with classes in classic.
For starters, Some classes are overly mana dependent (shamans are a great example of this) To such a degree, that they have to downrank (use lower ranked spells) just to keep dpsing.
For that reason i advocate we start talking about “if its ok for blizzard to make some minor changes” to the resource costs of some classes.
I’ll start with shaman class in classic.
Reduce the spell cost of Lightning bolt from 30 to 20
Reduce the spell cost of Shocks by 15
This is just an example, a few classes need minor changes like this, but we need to start and get such changes as soon as possible so all forms of specs are viable.
The problem with this is that if they change the classes they’ll then have to re-balance all the encounters in the game. At which point you’re not playing classic anymore.
I don’t think he’s trolling. I play a warlock and honestly, I’d love for them to remove the debuff limit. But I’m aware that it’s an entirely too slippery slope.
They went down that road. And what they wound up with was everyone being the same and just casting different colors.
I’m not saying classic can’t use some work. I think everyone knows it does. I just don’t think the current team (or any since Cataclysm, arguably even WotLK) is capable of doing so without dumbing it down.
Im not sure how. How would oomkins being more viable in raids effect balance negatively? TBC handled it just fine and there were a lot of adjustments there.
No, the problem is it would create a butterfly effect. You change it so boomkins become more viable, you change the entire meta of raid dynamics. You change what loot is in demand, and in order for boomkins to become viable they’d have to change the stats on a lot of existing gear. Its a slippery slope in more than one way.
This is one of my dealbreakers and I’m definitely not the only one. As others have already mentioned, it isn’t just because “REEEEE #NOCHANGES”, but rather that such changes have a butterfly effect at all levels of the game. Everything from the top down would have to be re-tuned to compensate, and we’ve seen how well that works out for the past 12 years.
Class balance was a lot better in tbc. I dont think anyone really debates that. Why would that be a bad thing? The hybrid tax was exessive in classic. TBC was much better balanced.
Were you all just too young to remember the class balance drama in vanilla, when you played? Class balance took a really long time in classic. Hell boomkin wasnt even thought through carefully, hunter wasnt even really comoleted at launch and warlocks went through a lot of growing pains as well.
