Wax or whetstones?

Wax is working again! But I’m curious if folks are still using it or paying the relatively high price for whetstones. Is it worth it? Wax is all but free from pickpocketing. What y’all going with?

You can only use on one weapon. Still need stones or oil either way.

Wax MH, Rank 2/3 Mana oil, that I can make myself on the OH.

I’d rather spend 6-8k on Leyline residue for a stack of oil than almost 20k for the same amount, when the gain isn’t substantial enough to care.

Wax is a slight gain over stones ST, always a loss in aoe (but these effects are all low impact enough its probably not big if you are looking to save money).

As some others said, it only works on one weapon, having it on both will not increase the damage. Doesn’t matter if its OH or MH.

Do you have a source for this? I’ve always assumed each weapon worked independently.

The Assassination Guide on Wowhead even emphasizes putting it on both weapons.

Discords is claiming MH only. And I’ve tried both, and it’s never over 1% of my overall damage either way.

Each weapon does work independently, but from my testing there is a maximum procs per minute no matter which hand does the proc; I do not know what that maximum is though.
Technically this means you should be putting Wax in your Off hand, especially if it’s a dagger, and then whatever on the main hand - but the difference is so insignificant that it’s probably better to just save some gold unless you are pushing the absolute bleeding edge of content.

Ah okay. So wax main hand and stone offhand?

I thought I remember reading wax main hand somewhere, but the discord didn’t mention that, and as Latsyrc said above, if it’s even going to make any difference at all, then it’d maybe make a minor difference on an off-hand dagger. It feels like it has some weird PPM rule though which is probably why stacking doesn’t seem to work.

I really don’t think it matters though.
