how can you get this mount? Can you simply buy it?
It was tied to the fishing rep in MoP.
The Anglers I believe.
You have to be exalted with them to buy it if I remember correctly. It’s been a while.

And if you just want a mount that can walk on water, you can look at the ah for inflatable water shoes I think it’s called. mount equipment. You can have a different mount equipment on each character. You can even put water walking on stormwind chopper and ride a motorcycle across the ocean now.
Or you can go fishing to exalted in pandaria, get a water strider, and put water shoes on it… They took waterwalking off that mount and sent water shoes to people who owned it at the time. I think the anglers sell water shoes now too though.

Other option if you don’t want the tedium of fishing: rep tokens during timewalking. That is how I finally got the waterstrider during Legion.
Edit: to go from neutral to takes 100 tokens. If you start saving tokens now, and run TW once on multiple characters for the 500 token quest, you could knock the rep out in a week without having to touch a horrible horrible fishing pole.

water walking just isn’t worth using compared to immune to daze equip.
So basically, the mount doesn’t float no more? I’ll stick to my cutie lil squeaker than.

That’s correct and there’s a bunch of us who put the time in to purchase the specialty water walking mount only to have that taken away from us by Blizz. Which in turn…pissed us off. Now with any new toon I make I have to fly down to visit Nat pagel in MOP and buy a specialty token for water walking and send it to my alt so they too can ride on the water even though the water Strider is in our stable…

The mount itself doesn’t… but it gives you access to the mount equipment that would make all of your mounts capable of walking on water… Which will be needed come SL as you’ll be losing flight once again.

Or you can spend, like, 600 gold in one go and have the shoes ready to go for a dozen alts.
You can get 2 of them. One from pandaria, doing daily quests with the tillers and fishing 3 special fish every day (takes a while) and one in Warlords of Draenor, fishing and saving coins from the random murloc that spawns while you are fishing there.

What do you mean? The water Strider will not walk on water for alts. What’s $600?
Blizzard took the water walking ability away from the water strider. You can buy the inflatable shoes on the AH if you don’t have the rep with the anglers to get it through them. The 600 is probably the price on the AH.
Oh that makes sense. So 1 pair of shoes are good for all toons and all mounts? Who makes the boots?
Its a better system now though and you had a long time with the water strider as it was.

If you’re best friends with Pagle in either Pandaria or your Garrison, he sells them for 40g. My 600g number came from thinking they were 50g, and the cost it would take to equip 12 toons.

I made a concentrated effort to get the Strider just before Legion ended and BfA launched so I would be ready for the next expac. I was successful too. Then they introduced the mount equipment. Now initially that did piss me off. But then I was like…eh. However after the mount equipment introduction I realised 2 things:
- Its stupid because all anyone does now is put on the inflatable mount shoes and promptly forget the system ever existed.
- It looks really immersion breaking when you see any mount run on water like that. At least the Strider made thematic sense when water walking. But an Elek? I mean, wtf? At this point why doesn’t blizz just put in Lamborghini’s and jet planes. They would make about as much sense.
