So use the mount that matches your xmog in town, or anywhere you know you don’t need to quickly cross water. I have a macro for special mounts: left click for strider, and right click for vendor/xmog mount. Otherwise I just my mouse button to mount a random favorite mount.

The fact they are hand picking the strider as lost uniqueness and not the vendor mounts or the sky golem shows they really don’t like the strider.

How many expansions until they nerf those and make all mounts Longbois? My Fathom Dweller could really use an AH.

If it has to be a system, I’d rather see items work at the mount level and be account bound, like the mounts themselves. Put a water walking item on a mount and that mount will have water walking for all alts.

EXACTLY - I would buy SO many more pieces of mount equipment if they did it this way.

I already have about 3-5 in mind that I’d love to equip with each of the options.

I use the water strider every day at this point in the expansion, as someone who constantly checks the BMAH it’s a godsend going from Zandalari docks across the water. With the addition of flying I assume it will see much less use but in certain cases it still holds value, especially if going forward each expansion will follow the no-flying until patch X.2 model.

Just something I’d like to get your perspective on, if the character who earned the Anglers reputation along with the mount gets the water walking item for free, what would a fair price be for the alts to get it?

I’d be willing to pay up to 50 gold per alt, given that it’s ground-only and once one hits level 60, one can just fly through all content until getting back to current. Thus I think it should be in the Level 20-60 price range. Honestly, though, I’d imagine this would make more sense being added to the heirloom tab and just dragging it out for alts like we do all the other leveling aids.

If that character who earned the reputation and mount has the option to water walk (but might choose something else), do you feel that alts should have every single thing that the other characters have?

The game has steadily been moving to a more alt-friendly format, from mounts and pets to pathfinder feats to transmog. While I don’t think every character should have the exact same thing, I do think that quality-of-life rewards revolving around grinds should be either account-wide or accelerated for alts (e.g. Pandaria reputation acceleration).

Also, just out of curiosity, how often would you estimate that you have you used the water strider mount in the 6+ years it’s been available?

I have it as part of all my mount macros so that I can quickly pull it out when desired. I only use it regularly at present in Nazmir.

This isn’t a terrible idea but I worry it would be a little too much convenience which I’m not overly fond of.

But what I’d really rather see is actual content being added to the game and not something that’s just another system for Blizzard to abandon or change on a whim.

There’s plenty of content added to the game. 8.2 looks like a huge patch. There will be new mounts to be earned and purchased.

I also like the idea of mounts having abilities or talents based on the type of mount. Maybe turtles and cranes and striders have water walking, but cats and wolves and bears have anti stun, and birds and dragons have the parachute. That would be a bit more restrictive than each mount being customizable across all characters, but would still be a way to introduce choice and variety, and would probably be easier to implement than coming up with a lot of new content.

Edited to add that I’m sure those ideas wouldn’t please absolutely everyone, but it seems like there’d be fewer complaints since nothing would actually be taken from anyone in order to have the potential to gain something.

If you think making people go back and grind old reputation or get lucky with a drop to get the type of mount with the ability they want would upset less people than the announced mount equipment system, I don’t know what to tell you. Not to mention it would “force” people into using a certain kind of mount instead of the mount they like most aesthetically, just like the water strider problem.

I think they’re trying to implement a system that will end up being non-expansion specific. In other words, a way to carry over a system into the next expansion, that allows for use through the rest of the games lifespan, and give mount perks some usage in earlier expansion content.

They could do that by just not level/zone/expansion locking the consumables we already have. Just like every expac we get drums that do basically the same thing, made out of current-content mats, they could give us stirrups, or barding, that can be used by anyone, anywhere, from whichever expansions materials you have in your bags.

This is a lot of dramatic text for something that not only hasn’t happened yet, it hasn’t even been announced.

As this very issue shows, they try their best to implement a system that benefits as many people as possible but what some people like others are bound to dislike. I can guarantee you they aren’t trying to alienate anyone.

Posting on the forums is the only way to “possibly” get anything changed.

I also wouldn’t say they “try their best”.

A simple solution that COMPLETELY MITIGATES this issue, while also satisfying their goals is to make the equipment unique per mount, across an account.

Day 1 of 8.2 we get our water walking equip in the mail - pop it into our water strider (or any mount of our choosing) and bingo - we’re right back to where we are today. No loss, no fuss, no feeling cheated.

Too much convenience? Not sure that’s really a thing, but I guess folks could always opt out.

Who said anything about grinding rep or depending on RNG?

The fact is that Blizzard wouldn’t go for any of these suggestions anyway since they would all provide folks with the opportunity to have mounts with more than one ability active at a time, so it’s a moot point. Blizz says it’s all or nothing, so that’s what we’re getting.

I’m out of likes for the next 15 hours, but good grief, this would be amazing. I mean, I know I’m speaking out against this equipment system, but it’s not out of love for the bug. I’d much rather almost any other mount in my stable have the water walking ability. I’d love LOVE to be able to pop it on the mount of my choice and have it ready to go for all characters.

I use my striders often many times a day, but not exclusively. I like’m, always have, but prefer other ground mounts. I let [Summon random favorite mount] choose from 40 or so.

I obtained both striders BECAUSE they’re account bound, that was part of their value. I’m not asking that every perk be account wide… I’m asking you to respect those that have been.

And making my alts pay anything for an ability I already earned for them is makes me feel like I’m being ripped off.

Fwiw: I don’t want the water walking all the time, I want it when I want it. I want to choose it, not have to “opt-out” or pay to switch it on and off. Sure, I’d love to have other mounts able to water walk… But not like this, this is just messy and insane.

If you want to fix something… How about correctly renaming those mounts you call “wyverns” because they aren’t. They’re manticores. Look it up.

So what abilities would mounts that require rep or RNG have? The same as standard wolves/horses/raptors/etc? Seems kind of pointless if, for example, the Flametalon of Alysrazor just does the same thing as a Striped Nightsaber. And again, it would “force” people to use a mount they don’t like aesthetically.

but don’t take away the ability of the mount that I worked so hard to get. It was multiple days of nonstop fishing and it really feels bad for that work to be taken away.

Exactly this, because why stop there then? How can I be sure ANYTHING i work on to have “an advantage” won’t be viewed as too much of “an advantage” and taken away? Blizzard can’t do this because it causes distrust. And distrust and unfairness makes people disillusioned and just go play other games.

Hello, do you know if the coarse leather bardings and the blacksmith monnel hardened stirrups will still be available when mount equipment enters the game? Are those getting removed or changed to not work in some way thank you.

People in these forums should really get a life. Not hard to understand if they leave waterwalking on the waterstrider, then the waterstrider will still be use the most even when no other equipment can be put on it.

The point is to offer choices. Don’t like the water strider, use a crane or any other mount in a family that offers the water walking option. If all birds have the parachute ability, you can use flametalon or a regular snowy gryphon or any other bird mount in the game. There are a lot of mounts in the game and more being added all the time. There aren’t that many types of equipment being offered. So far, just three. So there’d be a lot of options per ability in this imaginary reality. I’m picturing it working like hunter pets. There are cunning, ferocity and tenacious pets that are categorized by pet type.

And again, it would “force” people to use a mount they don’t like aesthetically.

As I said, it wouldn’t please everyone, but it would provide more options than we have now without removing any function that already exists. I also don’t buy too much into this “forced to use a mount they don’t like” because I currently use a mount I don’t like for water walking because it’s convenient. I’d much rather use a different mount, but not at the cost of that convenience or what it might cause me to lose in the future.

What, exactly, is the problem with this? Are you worried it might be too expensive? If that’s the case, I actually agree with you. I think the Anglers/Nat Pagle water walking equipment should be free if you have the rep.

Is it that you don’t like the hassle of having to go to Krasarang or your Garrison to get it? Because again, I’d agree that, while not a huge problem, it would be nice to have a vendor for it in a capital city.

This seem to contradict itself. You don’t think people would feel forced to use a mount they aren’t fond of for convenience yet you admit you do that exact thing.

my concern is what they take away today will be something different next month. just leave the water strider alone and everyone wins. those that want to use a horse with water walking shoes they can, oh it seems like my Warlock once could do that with Glyph of Nightmares which also got taken away because glyphs weren’t good for the game but fear not my friends we are giving a new version of glyph 2.0 called the heart of AP grind…don’t worry we take that away in patch 9.0…see how losing something just seems to snowball in this game anymore …if you don’t voice your opinion then nothing ever changes…
