Free… I don’t even understand why that is a question. It’s FREE right now, we EARNED it, of course we wouldn’t be happy going from “free” to “paying for what we already earned and have owned for several years.” We paid when we did the rep grind for it and shouldn’t have to pay again.
You should just exclude the Water Strider from the equipment feature. Leave it alone already.
Yes, when it comes to mounts at least I very much feel this way and you, Blizzard, felt this way too when you made mounts account wide. Even if I am on a different character I am still the same player and I still put in the effort.
I use it to cross water and then jump on my usual mount at some point. If the problem is that devs or other players have decided they hate seeing people using water striders so much, then you should just put flying/pathfinder in sooner. I don’t use it when I can just fly over the water…

This unnecessary waterstrider nerf will overshadow the content quality of 8.2
Thats all I have to say.

Asking trap questions and then never replying is in no way “chatting with us”

In the 6 years it’s been available I use it every day. It save me time from having to farm herbs for a water walking pot. I love this mount and the time it saves is immense.

I am a DK that isn’t a fair thing to ask. Obviously I next to never use it on my main. I also never used it much on alts except when necessary. Big fan of the Chopper I am.
The Water Strider should be treated like the Sky Gollum and left alone. It was earned as a water walking mount so please just leave it that way.

Let me ask my grandma how to solve this issue:
Grandma I see the water strider used often lately.
Grandma responds: Bring back flying sooner then. Problem solved.
I love Grandma.

Absolutely right, but sometimes you have to use politics.

I actually use it on and off water. I don’t have an issue with it’s appearance. I typically use it when farming herbs since I can easily transition from land to water. I’m also a weirdo who forgets to use any mount sometimes, especially if the distances aren’t too great. But I also use my raft in some areas if I want to fish and collect herbs.
I don’t want water walking toon-based. That’s not more options no matter how much your corporation tries to spin it that way. How is changing from one mount to another any different from changing a mount slot when conditions change? It’s not. If this were mount-specific? I’d be fine with that even if it meant every toon had to use a certain mount for a certain task.
This is pretty simple - leave the strider alone just as your corporation is leaving the golem alone. Quit pretending it can’t be done as we know it can be.
Blizzard, your corporation, is who feels my alts should have everything my main has. Why else would I be able to share mounts? Why else would unlocking an achievement on one toon unlock content on the others?

I’d expect it to be free. I’ve never had to pay to use my strider on any character.
As to how often I use it, it’ll be a lot more often from now on, on every alt, exclusively, when not flying.
Also I’d like to add, every flying mount should already have “slow fall”, it’s not like they forget how to fly in non-flying areas…but that would make too much sense.

I personally couldn’t give you an estimate on how many times that I used it, but I do use it enough to put it on my hot bar so I can easily get to it. I not only use it on the toon that I had earned the rep on; I use this mount on my many different alts that I have. I really don’t want to have to spend gold to get something that toon and my other toons have access to already. That can get to be too expensive. I don’t horde in-game gold and that is really not why I play this game to horde and make gold. I play this game to enjoy the story that Blizzard tells in the game; I love seeing the game graphics; I love listening to the music that has been placed in the game; and just doing the quests (reason why I have way, way too many alts ).
Forgot to add ( I haven’t seen someone mention this before); the name is call Water Strider which basically means that it walks on water. Is the name going to change too after this?

Blizz trying to squeeze blood from a turnip at this stage of BFA is comically sad.
I’ve never been a believer in politics. This cost nothing to do and has invoked a largely negative reaction. Why, exactly should he be thanked for asking us to put a price tag on the upcoming shaft?
Bear in mind that “well if we’re unhappy they’ll get upset and leave!” is a non-answer. These kinds of blue posts are worth just a little less then no post at all

okay so correct me if I’m wrong -
- Waterstrider is losing its passive, which is replaced by water-walking equipment
- The water-walking equipment is tied to the Anglers rep, so all we have to do is go back to the vendor and purchase it if we already have the strider.
- This equipment is usable at level 20+, just like the strider, but instead all our mounts will water-walk instead of the strider.
- Nothing has actually changed aside from us being able to use whatever mount we want instead of the bug, something this very forum has been begging Blizzard for literal years for.
If this is all correct, then this really is just a “complain just to complain” thread. The “grinding” for Anglers rep hasn’t changed, as you still need that rep for the water-walking equipment item. So nothing was taken away from those that put in the effort to earn it, they just moved water-walking to a new item and let us choose what mounts we want to use instead of an ugly bug.
The system itself is a lot of nothing. You could of just as well inserted an item like Bardings, Stirrups etc - like we already have - but just for waterwalking if you wanted to give people choices. I’m sure lots of people would love to finally feel like their riding the water in their sinkable boat.
The thing is, these idea’s are never fully fleshed out and the more I read into how this new idea is supposed to work. It just feels like it’s a giant waste of time and effort.
If you aren’t going to remove the system, and if you feel the need to be very closed minded (even though you say otherwise). Then at least get Blizzard to do the more ‘‘logical thing’’.
And leave the strider as is, exempt it as a ‘‘waterwalking’’ mount only since it’s what those striders do and be done with it.
Personally speaking we already have an anti-daze item… you could of saved the boring head ache and thrown in a ‘‘parachute’’ while mounted, and waterwalking and it would do the same.
Just saying.

You’re intentionally quoting a guy who doesn’t own the water strider mount as a way of trying to prove your point,
Hey, this guy who doesn’t have a water strider mount said it would be boring blah blah blah, OK my point is proven.
You know what, just admit it: Screw you players who busted your butts earning this mount. Fun Detected. Fun Nerfed.
You guys are just that oblivious and out of touch with your players.

Being as the Water Strider was introduced at the same time as Account-wide mounts, I feel every character on this account should be able to use the mount for free.
This is a fairly tough question to answer. What would you like for a metric, time on the mount, raito of time compared to other mounts, number of times I’ve summoned it?

But it hasn’t been needed for all characters, just one. All of your other characters have access to waterwalking mounts from level 20, free of charge. This change, as it appears, is going to nullify that for every alt until you purchase the waterwalking equipment.

This is what’s changed.
There’s also the fact that blue posts in this thread strongly suggest that the real reason for this system is so folks can’t use more than one special ability on a character, which means that things like bardings and stirrups won’t stay around long after this system is implemented and won’t get new versions next expansion.
No, this isn’t complaining just to complain. This is complaining at having to buy back functionality that we currently have for free, and complaining because Blizzard is once again controlling and limiting how we navigate the world.

If you don’t fight for the water strider other mounts are on the chopping block. Look at what they did to flying and patchfinder and portal prune. Still not ETA for cavern of time portal or when the rest of questing portals will be fixed.

Or just extend the duration of the water walking potions we currently have, or make a new BfA water walking potion with a longer duration to alchemists. There are plenty of ways that Blizzard could have given us more choices… if that was their true intention.
