It seems that there is a piece of mount equipment on the PTR that enhances speed by 20%.
So apparently, either we get left in the freaking dust by everyone around us, or we can gain back a highly situational ability we’ve had for years.

that is the singular point, besides the fact that allowing striders to keep their ability is still an advantage
Level 20 DI rogue. Had to do some current content just to unlock that.
According to your profile you have 160 achievement points and no honorable kills and are a level 20 Dark Iron Rogue, not a 120 Human Warlock.

the advantage of water striders retaining this ability is that if it’s true that there is only one equipment slot for all current mounts, then you would basically get to have 2 equipment slots
also any newcomer or old player that didn’t have the mount would need to do old content and personally rep farming is not on my to-do list

But that wasn’t the reason Blizz says they made this change. They claim it’s about player choice and people who want to water walk on other mounts.
I’d still rather keep my strider and opt out of the mount equipment altogether.
I actually like it, now instead of having to use 3-4 different mounts to do things I can finally use one mount to play the game. Like just using my netherlord or highlord horses.
Who cares? Besides, given how I pvp almost NEVER (and yet I still have an honor rating of 104, weird!), you’ll never find me.
it is an advantage in warmode and in SoB and I’m sure there will be many more examples to come
It is being argued all over this thread to keep water striders old ability?? if it did then you would get that and then be able to switch to another mount to go faster/ be undazable/ glide/ etc
OMGosh can you imagine an Azeroth where you could opt out of bad design?

I want the water strider left alone with NO equipment slot. Exactly how they are leaving the sky golem alone with NO equipment slot
I dunno what else to tell the guy, his loyalty obviously earned him far more than a mere water strider but achievement points don’t matter to me
I have it on the authority of the forums that the reason “everybody” is “forced” to use the water strider exclusively is because it’s physically impossible to swap mounts for situational use. So clearly this could never happen.
