Water-based DPS [Concept idea in edit]

I don’t know much about the lore of WoW, and I’m more of a newer player, starting this season with a few friends. One of them enjoys water-based specs, but primarily enjoys playing DPS. I’m shocked that, with how long WoW has been around, there isn’t a water-based DPS specialization yet.

Yes, we know that there’s Frost Mage/DK, but that’s ice, not water.

Yes, we also know that there’s Resto Shaman, but he enjoys playing DPS, not healer.

Why hasn’t Blizzard explored this concept?

Here is the concept I’ve considered:
They are a mid-range-based DPS commune with Leviathan sprites to ride tidal surges into battle. Their aesthetic is aqua blue/teal.

  • They will be resource-based, with Tidal Charges having up to 5 charges that will gain a passive that grants them “flow,” increasing their movement speed and haste for x seconds.
  • Melee Abilities: Water Slice: A water agile slash that deals damage and generates a tidal charge, Gushing Strike: a quick stab
  • Mid-Range Abilities: Surging Wave: Sends out a wave that deals water based damage over 6 seconds and slows movement of target. [Costs 1-2 tidal charges] ; Ebb and Flow: Burst of water bounces between targets up to 5 times with a chance to slow, each slow refunds a tidal charge. ; Leviathan Grasp: Call forth a set of Kraken tentacles that come from beneath the enemies and roots the enemies in place for x seconds [costs 3 tidal charges + cooldown]
  • Defensives: Bubble Shield: Adds an absorb shield for x secs[costs 2 tidal charges + cooldown]

Remind me, what is ice again?

Probably for the same reason why Blizzard hasn’t explored the concept of a holy-based RDPS yet.

Ice is a solid form of H20 where Water is the liquid form of H20, Mr. Smart Guy. They are not the same thing and offer different aesthetics.

I played a water tao in conquer online and it felt AMAZING.

Admittedly that was predominantly a healer too but water visuals are rather beautiful.

While I don’t know if it’ll happen I’m all for some kinda water based DPS (either shaman or mage).

Sure, but one is kind of silly as an aesthetic for slaying monsters.

Compared to a Rogue stabbing dragons with two toothpicks?

Yes, throwing water at it is even more silly than stabbing it with a blade.

Silliness goes out of the window when that’s already a thing lol.

Throw water but as it hits it turns into arrows or blades.

They did. They just saw that frozen water does more damage than liquid water.

and holy power, mist, rogue poison, warlock imp summoning, a tiny cat clawing, a big bird casting spells, and punching with your fists isn’t silly? This is a fantasy game, lighten up buddy

Like a frost mage or DK?

You probably think Pluto is a planet too

Hey, it worked for M. Night and the movie Signs…:slightly_smiling_face:

Games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy dabbled with the concept of Water Magic, the former was more in depth, even had Frost Magic so they were separate schools.
