If you are only comparing leveling.
But thats such a small aspect of the game, and I was clearly talking about more.
I also donât intend to play Classic, as it offers nothing for me.

I did all of that garbage at 16. Classic wasnât hard. Retail could learn a few things from it.
Iâm of the mindset that classic and retail both have challenges and issues in their own ways. Classic has issues in that at the time, developers and players alike had no idea what was going on, which is why some things never made sense like defense rating on cloth. Retail has issues in that a lot of the RPG elements which made Classicâs mistakes forgivable and outright capable of being ignored vanished.
Retail is where Iâll be spending a majority of my time, because Iâm someone who has already gone through Classic once. I remember being in my room at 15 or 16, and running around. Iâll never forget going into the Shimmering Flats for the very first time in the middle of the night and seeing the dark sky countered by a pure white floor that stretched as far as I could see. That kind of feeling was what made Classic so much fun and enjoyable. That feeling of exploring the unknown.
Retail needs to lose some of the accessibility and bring forth RPG elements in a manner that doesnât infringe upon the mechanics of the game. This is easily done considering the amount of cosmetic shenanigans we can do now with technology being as advanced as it is. But we also need substance back. BFA (personally speaking) feels hollow, while Classic will feel full of substance. We have all this content to do in BFA. But a lot of it isnât fun. Not to me.
Pulling in an MMORPG used to be an art. I am not just talking about marking, CCâing and solo pulling. I am talking about actually breaking up groups of mobs with things like FD pulling. Its a skill that some actually mastered. It was required to level at some points. Especially in games where death resulted in a loss of XP.
The bad part is that since it cant be quantified with a numerical value in todays MMORPGs, its not considered important. Its these kinds of skills that I miss the most.
Be careful not to pretend that EQ was the only MMORPG ever, and that its pulling mechanics apply to the entire genre.
While I wouldnât trade my time in EQ for anythingâŚand yes. EQ did a lot of things right. EQ also did a lot of things horribly wrong that I wouldnât ever want to see in another mmo.
Its two separate teams. We donât know what goes on in the day-to-day politics or workplace.
But if even half the rumors circling Blizz are true Iâd guess that the majority of developers working under their brand do so since they have no confidence finding work outside their current domain or theyâre locked into it some kind of binding contract that royally screws them over should they even breath a word of walking out the door.
Though thatâs just my guess and from briefly brushing with the kind of people who are looking to get into game development as a career, it wouldnât take much for someone with an abundance of leadership, communication and confidence skills to just walk all over them.
Yeah I am familiar that EQ wasnât the whole genre. I also donât think every MMORPG is broken because I can drop a harvester and kill dewbacks without taking damage as they get hung up on it and the AI cant make it walk around. Each is different but to say ANY is the end all be all is just wrong. I like bits and pieces of each and will voice support for things people in echo chambers want to ignore (whether its classic or retail or even outside of WoW)
I am not one of those who say retail sucks and classic is greater. They are different. they cater to a different player base. To me classic is about the journey, and I for one will not race to cap. Retail (for many people) is more about racing to cap and doing whatever the current endgame is. Classic is just going to force people to do something they would not do on their own. It also has skills that are no longer valid. Retail needs skills that were not dreamed of in Vanilla.
I gave my grown son a challenge in Retail. Thatâs to play it like a Classic player would and play each expansion in its entirety before moving on. He is 20 days played in and is having more fun than he ever imagined. He hasnât gotten to Wrath yet, but he has almost every rep maxed out. He won the fishing contest for the first time Sun and he has played since BC.
I ran him through some raids since there really were not raid groups at level. He has most of tier 1 & tier 2 and he is moving on to BC raids this week. He is still shocked how much fun he is having simply by not racing to cap to try to do the content everyone else is focused on.
WoW is an amazing game. Each expansion has its good and bad, just like retail and classic does. I am tired of the people who hate on Classic because they are âelite gamersâ who would never play that trash and I am tired of the haters who complain about retail and what WoW has become.
What we need is Baine to come in here and tell everyone to just get along.
Is proven wrong
get proven wrong again
Got em.
The sooner you classic sheep stop being delusional, the sooner youâll except your fate as cattle to be bled dry for retails benefit.
You donât get to tell him what abilities count or do not. Iâm a PvPer so pvp talents are core to my game-play. Even without them you were still proven wrong.
I think you just feel that you ay because itâs a better game.
Hope Ion was watching.
You say this a lot and while I agree that Vanilla rotations were simple the depth came in the form of managing your resources. Vanilla classes also had way more situational skills that were a lot of fun to play with.
I really donât see how modern WoW has that much more depth as far as class rotations go. With all the pruning the game is about as easy as it was in Vanilla now. Iâd say the height of class design was in MoP, those specs actually had some depth to em. But alas they donât fit into the M+ paradigm the game revolves around now.
Jeff also has become a joke. Banning cartoon frog and signs.
