Watch the WoWCast : Special Add-On Edition

I like what they’re doing, but I have some questions:

  • Will it also track trinkets (as Hekili does)?
  • Will it recognise if you’re in a group or not and adapt its rotation for that?
  • Will it recognise what Spec you’re playing (e.g. will Healer’s show Healing spells rather than their DPS spells when in Delves or Dungeons)?

To be honest, I think a good spec should be self-explanatory without rotation addons, and the game should organically teach during levelling. Also, I don’t trust Blizzard to update it every time they rework talents or issue new tier sets.

But one button rotation can be nice for accessibility. For example, I broke my right hand recently and I had to play with my left hand for six weeks. Such button would have been very nice.

This is basically my concern. I like the general idea, from the video. Less 3rd party add-ons - Although what they do is awesome, if it is limiting developers design space, it absoltuely should be addressed.

At the same time, either I’m not using the new cooldown manager properly, or it seems like a really bad version of TMW (Tell me when) which just does a better job, in my opinion. However, I don’t think this is the kind of add-on they are looking at restricting - A specific example of what they want to do would have been nice, but they didn’t really give any, other than to say that their design space is being limited by add-on authors.

Ion literally said it was combat addons they were specifically targeting. He even named the ones they were considering breaking.

also…the 11.1.7 PTR is available for download in the launcher rn so yea, I expect the PTR with this to go live sometime in the couple weeks or so.

Rotation helper, is a good idea for those that need it and cant be bothered to find out the information external to the game, it wont replace that or guides and videos, but might suppliment it.

While I would never utilise the one button mode (so technically doesnt impact me) I dont think its a good idea to distle the game into a 1 button rotation for anyone, because it doesnt just affect those that choose to use it, it has flow on impacts that im not sure are being considered;

  • The ability to troll increases - players can queue content that can play well, and just want to grief others by switching to 1 button mode (unless they restrict it from M+, M Raiding & PVP).

  • Botting just got infinitely easier and will become a rampant problem more so then it is already.

  • This actively encourages not bothering to learn rotations, how to play a class, or how to do mechanics (reducing the likelihood of people seeking to improve), just call it what it is literally ‘participation mode’.

Have a feeling this is actually another step towards releasing on console.

Don’t worry, people will still fail even with a one button rotation. If you try to idiot-proof something, there’s always an idiot who will say ‘hold my beer’

many moons ago, I posited the idea of an introductory area that really taught new players or new classes to players the ins and outs of their rotations rather than being auto added into the task bar or players forgetting to add to the task bar (guilty of that one).

This seems like a “Here’s autopilot mode” so the plane can fly while you watch Netflix. Also, makes it feel like a response to button bloat or rather the data suggesting the millions of us below average players are playing incorrectly (surprise here’s an autopilot mode). Already we have an auto talent tree, why not rotations.

Not against it, but I can’t help but wonder if by me not choosing to use this feature, it gets picked up automatically as me flying by the seat of my pants suboptimally and next thing I’ll see is Saang is pushing random buttons…he’s gonna do less DPS!

Automation is the wave of the future, it seems. Next, I’ll just send my toon on quests while I RP chat or something. But no one talks in the game, so maybe just collect loot like some kind of Farmville WoW edition. Send your warband on 4 different quests! Have them team up with follower dungeons! Collect rewards in 4 hours! We know you have no time to play! Let us play for you! It’s not botting…it’s {insert new word} and the rewards will still be far below standard, but definitely raid finder level.

:crab: :ocean: :crab: :ocean:

How would that be trolling exactly?

you’ve clearly not been on Stormrage while I play, nor been in delves when I’m delving. I talk all the time in /1.

also, this feature doesn’t automate anything.
It’s a blizz castsequesnce macro with some stuff added that only they get to do. Like conditionals.

You still have to spam the button yourself, and theres a “slight GCD penalty” for using it.

The new PTR can be DL’d rn so I’m guessing it will go live soon–ish so we get to try it first hand.

the way Ion made it sound you’d have to not push anything to fall below the DPS floor so yea. I’m not seeing the problem.

but neither have we had a chance to play with it yet either.

it may be too good, it may be terrible.

Ion also talked about that in the vid so not sure what we getting yet.

Well…if it works, even somewhat, it’ll make playing on my LegionGo easier…that could actually be fun. Wouldn’t try raiding, but world content…why not.

I could swear a saw in the video that the gcd penalty was showing at .2 seconds. I could be misunderstanding what i saw or i can be just in left field.

Well, if it becomes popular I’m just seeing it down the road setting a precedent. Still press buttons as the right sequence of untethered actions is too complex. Which means simplifying things and “could” shorten the game for say console users

as for chat, I rarely talk as people are mostly rude to me with few exceptions. I generally /emote things like salute, bow or cheer though

:crab: :ocean: :crab: :ocean:

idk what the final penalty will be.

I listed to, but didn’t watch the vid so I cold type on the forums instead

If it is .2 seconds then that would mean very little if the player is doing the movement mechanics, which everything encounter seems to be very heavy with these days.

if anything it would increase DPS cuz you could spam your button and move while the script choses whatever you cast on the move to cast.

the old adage “always be casting”. Some players stop casting all together when they have to move rn so yea, it would be a boon for those players if they spam a button while using the mouse to move for mechanics.

Myself included in that group

Y’all couldn’t make a cooldown manager and you expect THIS to be a good plan? Get the you-know-the-word out of here.

Take away some rotational complexity (in some cases players can already do this with talents).

Take away enemy mechanics so players can focus more on their rotation.

But for god’s sake don’t give players a 1-button rotation to ruin pugs with.

It will certainly set a DPS floor for all specs. one can simply spam the button and get X DPS from it. so yea, I can see DPS checks being built around it.

and what I mean by that is DPS in the appropriate gear and instance difficulty level would be able to meet the DPS checks using it.

I’m not going to be rude to you. I like having people to chat with on here and in game

we may not agree, but if all we ever did was agree it would look creepy and kinda sus right?

Maybe this will be good enough to get my baddie title removed so i can start normal raids and low keys. Im currenty skeered and only do delves and lfr.

always be casting
don’t stand in the bad
and
plan CDs with the group

once you when to pop your big DPS CDs in the group drink your pots/flasks you’ll be fine.

the hardest part of group content is living the lifestyle if you ask me. It’s almost like a relationship and I just don’t have not want to spend the time on it anymore.

Get the right guild/group you will have a blast. Most fun in WoW you will ever have.

try you’ll be fine.

Watched the “highlight” on YouTube.

Ion isn’t wrong. Some people really don’t care about being “good” at the game. This will be their out - especially the one button rotation thing.

Frankly, WoW has also gotten so complicated that Blizzard is automating a lot of it away. Talent trees now have a Starter Build so you don’t have to think about it. Now we have rotation guides build into the UI and a single button that will use the rotation for you.
