Was Warlords Of Draenor (WoD) genuinely that bad?

Legit Question.

I mean, i’ve played WoD at its time, so i get why people bashed it (Boring Garrison and cut content maybe)

But, was it THAT bad? Almost seems people have some personal hatred with WoD.

But i really enjoyed the leveling zones, and had a blast of fun with its Dungeon and Raids. Sure, it was sad that WoD got discontinued like mid expansion, but for what it had it was great

The content that was there was pretty good, imo. Raids and cm’s were fun, class design for the ones I played was better than it is now, questing was solid, they actually put effort into pvp.

I think most people gripe about WoD because of the content that wasn’t there.

Pretty good leveling to 100. After that raid or die.

I don’t know, I didn’t play it. But chasing that title sure sucked I tell you hwhat.

The story was kinda trash. The actual game play content aside from garrisons was solid. That said? there wasn’t much gameplay content. We were shorted a raid (just like SL)

It was. It was that bad.

The reason mainly is the context of the time.

  1. It disrupted the game in a major way. Garrisons was a half-baked idea that attempted to quell the cries for Housing and completely ignored the fact that it was implemented in a MMO that depends on players being out in the world to actually push the immersion.

  2. The expansion came on an already BURNT player base. SoO is to date the longest lasting patch ever made. In essence, WoD made a lot of people feel like one gigantic drought from Mist to Legion.

  3. Yes, content cut. It seems like a small issue in the grand scheme of things but it mattered. A lot. It made millions run away and never come back. IMO, the content was terribly told too.

  4. It was the first major battle in the war against flying and boy did it sour the animosity between players and developers for the next 10 years.

Yeah, WoD was the worse expansion of its time.

Yeah, WoD is 200% more enjoyable to play NOW in the present.

those raids were amazing

It had Blackrock Foundry, which was an amazing raid.

But we were stuck in our Garrisons, and blizzard doubled down on their arrogance and didn’t let us fly till like 2/3 of the way through the expansion.

And lets not forget, while there was a content drought they gave us the S.E.L.F.I.E camera lol.

bruh, first it was cataclysm, a shortened content expansion with little interest and small step of what would be the ideas that would exhaust them in WoW, even so it was not bad or the worst expansion, it only divided until in fact it is possible to be a candidate for the classic servers later by WotLK

Mist of Pandaria an expansion whose result was the same as Cataclsym with an irrelevant context at the beginning due to the Asian style and with pandas that even some thought that Blizzard would focus on the JRPG (which it should do as Warcraft 3 was), however here I am the expansion as a love letter to the community, an absolute philosophy and an affection for what Dragonflight is not imitating at first, for which reason as Cataclsym it is neither bad nor worse, but it was not the favorite either.

Warlords of Draenor, an expansion whose beginning looked good with the world of an old and beautiful Draenor, but cut it down and a modality similar to doing expansions like Activision with Call of Duty’s annuals, ruined what would be a tenth anniversary expansion for I respect the franchise, it was bad but it wasn’t the worst.

Battle for Azeroth, until seeing that 8.0 and 8.1 were going well, but the burning of Teldrassil showed us how cowardly and stupid WoW news devs are to put aside and move away from strong war content with strong images like Warhammer 40K, or Attack of Titan where it ruined the Faction Peace ark and Marie sue female character where it has nothing to do with the lore of our characters, just like WoD, it was even worse, but it wasn’t the worst.

Until we got to Shadowlands where we saw the result of the cringe and chutzpah woke of the Blizzard influence and it proved to be the worst expansion ever made in MMO history.

Any of these expansions before the one mentioned showed that it was the worst until then or bad but nevertheless with the advancement of other new expansions, Blizzard showed that it went from bad to worse every time, although a bit of redemption which Legion and the beginning from BfA was worthy of being the expansions we wanted.

Now we come to Dragonflight, the question is, will it have the same fate as Shadowlands? the real answer will be shown in the content of 10.1 and the ending of the last raid of this patch.

WoD was really fun in the first few months. What really killed it was the lack of support and content updates.

Best leveling for many is WoD, it had great questlines with decent cinematics for each zones. The concept of treasures was also the best done up to date.

Arguably the best expansion for raiding so far with 3 solid raids with really interesting mythic fights with also last boss of mythic raids having a secret phase, something that they have stopped doing which made fights a lot more impressive and fun in mythic.

It’s great but incomplete and had some bad decisions made for it.

Best leveling expansion though next to running classic dungeons.

At the time? Yeah, it was. I still /facepalm after the stupid hype for that one patch that only turned out to be the friggin selfie cam. So derp.

Personal hatred is reserved for Slands. Burning, seething hatred for that one. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

wod perks was stupid they took stuff out of you spells then gave it back as you leveled

lots of cut content

it was the last time i felt strong

WoD was great if you like pvp. It was also the last xpac that felt like WoW and not Diablo 3 simulator.

Yea that’s also something, I personally came back for wod after playing TBC and Wotlk. So WoD was mostly what I was expecting, people came from mop with it’s dailies and timeless isle and expected something different.

I quit in panda and came back in BfA.

WoD was by far my favorite expansion to level alts through. And I still have fun with the garrison and achievements there. Legion turned into and on rails maze map slog at the end.

WoD might have been great but suffered from no real capital, lack of content/patch cadence, and the no flying debacle. And not having a bed in your garrison. According to some, that’s what makes it so it wasn’t player housing.

Think it’s the patch cadence that can really screws over an expansion. Doesn’t matter how good the content is, it wont be great after three months and horrible after eight.

Ayup. When you pay for an expansion, its not unrealistic to expect a full expansion worth of content. And WoD was definately not that.

It had a complete raid patch removed. It had patches with almost literally no content. It had areas that were supposed to have content (certain islands) and which never did. It was the expansion that introduced Pathfinder after players bitterly complained when Ion told us that flight was being removed. It had an unfortunately badly designed garrison system that further eroded player interaction.

It was the first time since I started playing WoW in 2009 that I actually stopped playing. I went off to play ESO for about 3 months because I could not face another day in that damned garrison.

So yes, it rather was that bad.
